Werder Bremen has been pulled into a relegation battle. Can they stop the slide against Augsburg on Saturday? Read our Augsburg vs Werder prediction and betting tips.
Augsburg suffered a damaging defeat in head coach Markus Weinzierl's first game back at the club, the 2-1 loss in Stuttgart last time out leaving them just two points above the relegation zone. Die Fuggerstädter's form has slumped at the worst possible time, with four losses from their last five making this fixture the very definition of a 'must-win game'. The continued absence of center-back Felix Uduokhai to injury is a big blow in that regard, while Weinzierl will be hoping seven-goal leading scorer Andre Hahn can rediscover his finishing touch after five games without scoring. Left-back Iago is a doubt with a knee injury sustained in training; Mads Pedersen could deputize for the Brazilian.
Taking into account goals and assists, Hahn and Daniel Caligiuri have supplied 18 of Augsburg’s 32 league strikes in 2020/21. Florian Niederlechner scored his fourth goal of the season on Matchday 32. This time last term, he’d already put away 12 of his eventual 13 goals for the campaign. Augsburg has won nine of their 19 Bundesliga meetings with Bremen. They have only recorded more top-flight wins against Mainz (10).
Augsburg: Gikiewicz - Gumny, Oxford, Gouweleeuw (c), Iago - Hahn, Moravek, Khedira, Vargas - Richter, Niederlechner
Out: Uduokhai (ankle)
Doubtful: Gruezo (muscular), Jensen (knock), Suchy (muscular)
Coach: Markus Weinzierl
Bremen are similarly in off mode and a recent run of seven straight defeats has left them out of the drop zone on goal difference alone, having been 11 points clear of danger at the end of March. Florian Kohfeldt's side did manage to end their losing streak with a battling 0-0 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday so they can take heart from that, while a win here would stand them in good stead going into the final round of fixtures. Sargent is expected to form part of Bremen's attacking trident once more, accompanied by Niclas Füllkrug and Milot Rashica. Sargent has scored a career-best five Bundesliga goals so far this season but hasn’t fired in his last seven. Coach Kohfeldt has recorded more wins against Augsburg than any other Bundesliga club he's faced as a coach (five in six games). Key center-backs Ömer Toprak and Marco Friedl are back in training after calf and pelvis injuries respectively.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Gebre Selassie (c), Toprak, Friedl, Augustinsson - Eggestein, Groß, Bittencourt - Sargent, Rashica - Füllkrug
Out: Dinkci (suspended), Plogmann (knee), Woltemade (knee)
Doubtful: Veljkovic (match fitness)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt

Bremen has recorded seven wins all season. If they fail to win again, the Green-Whites will set an unwanted club record for the fewest victories in a single Bundesliga campaign. BettingKick’s Augsburg vs Werder prediction is: Under 2.5 goals.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
