Barnsley host Birmingham at the Oakwell (Barnsley) in the 35th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 6. Read our reasons for Barnsley vs Birmingham prediction and betting tips.
Barnsley beat QPR 3-1 in London on Wednesday night to record a sixth successive victory and move up into the Championship play-off places. It is only the second time the Tykes have won six games in a row in the second tier and the first in 100 years. The Tykes got all their results through hard work and deserve to be in the play-off contention. The host will certainly want to keep the momentum going against Birmingham who earned a point at Huddersfield on Tuesday (1-1). The Blues are lingering above the relegation zone in the 21st place, six points behind Rotherham who have three games in hand over them.
Barnsley have definitely left behind their little purple patch in the Championship – in the weeks after the turn of the year, Barnsley's promising form under Valerien Ismael started to unravel, creating the prospect of the remainder of the campaign being spent in mid-table. However, a run of six victories has changed the club's trajectory. Sitting just three points adrift of fifth-placed Reading with a game in hand, Ismael knows that the Tykes are within touching distance of becoming a major player in the promotion race, a remarkable change in fortunes after narrowly avoiding relegation in July.
Valérien Ismaël's side created history in West London tonight, beating Queens Park Rangers and for the first time in 134 years, recording the sixth consecutive second-tier wins in a season. First-half goals from Daryl Dike and Alex Mowatt had a Charlie Austin strike for the hosts sandwiched in between before Carlton Morris grabbed a winner for the Reds after the break. There was little else to report in all honesty as Barnsley were happy with their evening's work and another priceless three points on the road.
MeanwhileIt was a frustrating night for Birmingham on Tuesday, as they played out a goalless draw with fellow Championship strugglers Huddersfield at The John Smith’s Stadium. The sides played out a low-grade 1-1 draw totally in keeping with their statuses near the Championship danger zone. The Blues had good chances from Ivan Sanchez in the first half and Scott Hogan late in the second but could only muster a scrambled Marc Roberts equaliser.
Had they won, the Blues would have leapfrogged both Huddersfield and Coventry and been the team with momentum in the relegation fight. However, they might still be able to talk in such terms – they are 15th in the form table over the last six games, which places them above the Huddersfield, Coventry, Rotherham and Sheffield Wed. Let’s not pretend it’s turning into a good season for Birmingham, but the fact they have come from behind to take something from their final two matches is of some comfort.

Barnsley meet Birmingham having previously won three of their last five league meetings with the Blues (L2), as many as their previous 17 beforehand (excluding play-offs). On the other hand, Birmingham have only lost one of their last seven league visits to Barnsley (W4 D2), going down 2-0 in November 2017.
Since Valérien Ismaël’s first league game in charge of Barnsley on October 27th, only Norwich (60) and Brentford (53) have won more Championship points than Barnsley (50). The Tykes are looking to win seven consecutive league games in the second tier for the first time in their history and we fully expect them to do so.
