Barnsley host Bristol City in the 5th week of the Championship at Oakwell (Barnsley) on Saturday, October 17 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
After spending most of the 2020/2021 season under the drop line, in the bottom tree, Barnsley succeeded to miraculously escape the relegation on the final day of the campaign. Unfortunately, they have started this new campaign in the same vein as they are sitting in the 21st place with a solitary point, courtesy of a goalless draw against Coventry at home. They haven't found the net in the first three games before getting on the score-sheet in their most recent defeat to Middlesbrough (2-1).
As for Bristol, early signs are that they have got rid of the lack of consistency that was plaguing them in previous seasons. They have a perfect start to the season having won all of their matches so far, the latest being away against Notts Forest (1-2). They have conceded only twice as they top the table on goal difference above Reading. They couldn't have wished for a better start and will look to continue the unbeaten run when they visit Barnsley on Saturday.
MATCH ANALYSIS
To compound to their misery on the pitch, Barnsley's problems have translated off the pitch as well. Barnsley defender Bambo Diaby has been banned from all forms of football activity for two years after he was found guilty of breaching the Football Association's anti-doping regulations. Also, boss Gerhard Struber has left the Championship club after only 11 months in charge to become the new head coach of New York Red Bulls afterThe MLS club have met release clause to recruit the 43-year-old Austrian. He criticised and questioned the owners ambitions in the aftermath of the Middlesbrough match as the Reds have become somewhat of a revolving door of a club with constant churning of players and managers. While still looking for a manager, they have added Milton Keynes Dons defender Callum Brittain for an undisclosed fee, Celtic striker Jack Aitchison on a three-year deal and full-back Jordan Williams has signed a new contract. Unless they want to have to rely on miracles in the final weeks this season too, they need to step up their performances rather sooner than later.
Bristol City showed promise early on in the last campaign as they were in the play-off mix until January. But the lack of consistency that was plaguing them in the last five seasons, where their highest position in the table was 8th in 2018/2019, coupled with the lack of quality and their style which was uninspiring the least, saw them finish disappointingly without a proper fight, which was a signal for the end of Lee Johnson's time at the helm. The team now looks good on paper and with a relatively easy start to the season they have got the early momentum for the rest of the season. Their manager Lee Johnson has just signed a new four-year contract and it looks like the board trust him to take the club forward. Against Boro, The Robins were 2-0 up inside 22 minutes, with Andreas Weimann's placed finish and Nahki Wells' half-volley putting them on course for a fourth win from four matches. Bristol are looking to shake off that 'streaky' tag they have and an away win against disarraying Barnsley doesn't look too far-fetched.

These two teams faced each other 22 times since 2005 and Barnsley won on 4 occasions while Bristol have won 11. 7 matches ended without a winner. Bristol's most recent head-to-head win was in 2012 and since then they lost 4 and drew 5 games.
These two teams score plenty of goals and they average 3.82 goals in their meetings, where Barnsley averages 1.68 goals and Bristol 2.14.
Both teams scored in 8 from their last 10 games and as both teams' recent form and performances suggest, this might be an easy win for the visitors.
My prediction: over 2.5 goals

Wyatt grew up in the suburbs of London and he is a big Chelsea fan. As a young boy, he found his love for football, which became an obsession, but when he tried playing it he soon realized that he just wasn't talented enough. Bearing that in mind, Wyatt decided to learn everything there is to know about all the teams and players, with special focus on Premier League and Championship . Wyatt has a big affection for Championship and he is well versed in all the teams and knows their advantages and weak spots very well. He is an economist, and being one makes him good with numbers and also good with the odds. His specialty are BTTS matches.
