BARNSLEY VS CARDIFF MATCH ANALYSIS
Barnsley head into this game following a 1-0 win over Daniel Farke's Norwich on Saturday in the fourth round of the FA Cup. However, when it comes to the league, they are on a three-game losing streak during which they haven’t scored a single goal. As a result, they have fallen to 12th in the table and are now 8 points away from play-offs. As for the visitors, they are on a terrible six-game losing streak and are coming into this game on the back of the two home defeats – against Norwich (1-2) and QPR (1-0) last Thursday – and with a new manager. They have fallen to 15th in the league, further away from play-offs with every defeat.
Barnsley have started this new campaign in the same vein after miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season. They had been sitting near the relegation zone early in the campaign but have dramatically improved their form since then. The Tykes were without a win in their first seven matches, but their turnaround has been brilliant. In their next 20 matches, they have won 12 and lost 8 and got really close to play-off berths.
Barnsley have been in fine form this season under Valerien Ismael but are coming into this match on the back of the three defeats in the Championship – against Norwich (1-0), Swansea (0-2), and Watford (1-0). They did, however, win their FA Cup Round 3 and 4 matches against League Two side Tranmere (2-0) and Championship leaders Norwich (1-0). They will be, therefore, keen for a good start here in order to get their league campaign back on track.
Cardiff, on the other hand, are without a win in more than a month (L6) in all competitions after a 3-2 win against Birmingham on December 16. The current downturn in form was enough for Neil Harris to get a sack and the club named Mick McCarthy as a replacement in the dug-out for the rest of the season. Harris had left Cardiff in 15th in the Championship, closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs.
This has not been the only worrying sequence of results this season, which the Bluebirds started with a mere three wins from their opening 13 fixtures. After a defeat against strugglers Wycombe, manager Neil Harris admitted that he was fighting to keep his job, having held talks with Cardiff's owner Vincent Tan. The FA Cup exit heaped even more pressure on Bluebirds’ boss as they were left to rue their lack of creative sparkle and the latest home second-tier defeat was the end of the line for him.

Barnsley have enjoyed a good season so far, but their recent form will be a cause for concern. They have now lost three consecutive league games, and manager Ismael will be keen to ensure that this drop in form is temporary. Cardiff, on the other hand, have a new manager at the helm in the form of former Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy. They have lost their last five league games, and are in free fall. Barnsley produced a good performance against Norwich in the FA Cup. Given how well they have done this season, they should be able to beat the Bluebirds.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
