Barnsley host Norwich at the Oakwell (Barnsley) in the Round 4 of the FA Cup and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, January 23.
BARNSLEY VS NORWICH MATCH ANALYSIS
Barnsley have been in fine form this season under Valerien Ismael but are coming into this match on the back of the three defeats in the Championship – against Norwich (1-0), Swansea (0-2), and Watford (1-0). They did, however, win their FA Cup Round 3 match against League Two side Tranmere (2-0) to set up the meeting with the Championship leaders again, this time in the domestic cup. As for the Canaries, Daniel Farke's side got back to winning ways in 2021 as they beat their Saturday’s opponents in the league and followed it with three more league wins next, including beating Coventry in the FA Cup (2-0) at home. The Canaries remain top of the league and will hope to reach the next round of the FA Cup, to boot.
Barnsley have started this new campaign in the same vein after miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season. They had been sitting near the relegation zone early in the campaign but have dramatically improved their form since then. The Tykes were without a win in their first seven matches, but their turnaround has been remarkable. In their next 18 matches, they have won 10 and lost 8 and got really close to play-off berths.
Barnsley last progressed to the fifth round back in 2012/13, although a home draw is favourable for the ‘Tykes’ who have lost just one of their last six FA Cup home ties in 90 minutes (W3, D2, L1). Despite their recent disappointments, Ismael will be confident of lifting a group of players that have arguably over-achieved since he took his place in the dugout at the end of October. He could take the opportunity to hand a full debut to recent signing Carlton Morris, who came through the Norwich academy setup.
Norwich, on the other hand, are determined to return to the Premier League immediately and will stick to their attacking style of play when they visit the Oakwell next. Finland attacker Pukki looks unstoppable at the moment, and he is likely to prove a handful for the hosts on Saturday afternoon. They defeated Barnsley in the league on January 2, as Emiliano Buendia's smart finish secured victory over the Tykes.
Valerien Ismael's side started better and it took until the second half for the chances to come for the hosts. Eventually, they got their first win in their next four matches, including a Round 4 FA Cup win against Coventry to set up another meeting with Barnsley. Most importantly, they have kept the momentum that can change so quickly in this league and are coming into this weekend’s match in red-hot form.

Barnsley have won just one of their last 16 meetings with Norwich in all competitions (D4 L11), losing 0-1 at Carrow Road in the Championship earlier this month, while Norwich have won two of their three FA Cup ties against Barnsley, with this the first such encounter between the sides since a 1-0 win for the Canaries in January 1992.
Thy Tykes are looking to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time since 2012-13, with them losing against Portsmouth at this stage of the competition last season. Meanwhile, the Canaries are looking to reach the FA Cup fifth round in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1990-91/1991-92.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
