Barnsley host Norwich at the Oakwell (Barnsley) in the 46th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 8. Read our reasons for Barnsley vs Norwich prediction and betting tips.
Barnsley missed the chance to set up a more favourable Championship play-off semi-final when they lost 2-0 at Preston last time out. The Tykes have already confirmed their play-off spot but could not handle the physical threat of the hosts as their run of four wins in five ended. Meanwhile, The Canaries boss Daniel Farke became the only manager in the history of the football club to win two league titles with Norwich, after his squad hammered Reading 4-1 at Carrow Road to seal their latest coronation – the final match of the regular season will surely be just a formality for them.
Valerien Ismael’s side have won 13 of their last 18 league matches and will focus on an unlikely Premier League push when the play-offs begin in a fortnight. However, there was no sign of that form and confidence as they shipped two goals from poorly-defended set-pieces in Lancashire. The Reds left Lancashire empty-handed after a disappointing display. Valerien Ismael though expressed his displeasure at a performance that wasn’t in keeping with the Reds’ high standards over the course of their splendid season.
Whatever happens next, Barnsley have had a season to remember and the icing on the cake could still come in terms of promotion via the play-offs. Valerien Ismael has worked wonders at Oakwell and delivered the type of season that seemed unimaginable back in the summer of 2020. Pre-season predictions had Barnsley down for another campaign of possible relegation worry, with the South Yorkshire side having finished just a point above the drop zone last year. But the Tykes have adapted to the unique demands of the current season better than many others play-off hopefuls.
As for Norwich, the 2020/21 Championship winners have secured not only the title with a win against Reading last weekend, but set up a few records along the way, too. The Canaries’ 96 points is the most a Norwich side has ever achieved in a season. We can add that to the record tally of 15 away wins and should Daniel Farke’s side beat Barnsley on Saturday they will create yet a third first, as in 30 wins in a season.
City's title triumph of 2019 was followed by a disappointing relegation slump with just 21 points. However, Daniel Farke's team have bounced straight back to the top flight with a club-record points haul, with 96 already in the bag ahead of the final game of the campaign at Barnsley on Saturday. Next season, Norwich should be are more experienced, more 'streetwise', and better prepared for a crack at surviving in the Premier League.

Barnsley take on league-leaders Norwich in their final match, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Valerien Ismael’s side. They’ll be keen to get back to winning ways as well, after the Yorkshire derby defeat. On the other hand, the Championship trophy will be presented to Norwich before the game at Barnsley, and even though they haven’t got too much to play for, the visitors should put out the performance worthy of the champions.
