BARNSLEY VS NOTTINGHAM MATCH ANALYSIS
The Tykes experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-0 loss to Cardiff City in midweek, as they continued with their habit of putting in much better performances at home than on the travels. However, the last round saw them record their first away win of this campaign at Derby (0-2). They are in 16th place in the table with 13 points ahead of their clash with Forest at home. As for Nottingham, Chris Hughton has drawn three and won three of his first eight league games in charge at Forest and they have lost only once (1-0 to Middlesbrough) since he took over, after losing first four matches on the trot. With the latest win against Wycombe, they are 20th with 12 points, having won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
After miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season, the Tykes have started this new campaign in the same vein as they are sitting near the relegation zone. However, there are some encouraging signs. They haven't found the net in the first three league games, but have managed to get on the score-sheet in their last seven fixtures, apart from the Cardiff match in round 10 (W3,D3,L1), which was their first defeat under Valerien Ismael.
However, the way in which they won their previous two matches gave Ismael hope that his side can continue to climb further up the table, which they did after a win at Derby. Barnsley sent Derby to the bottom of the Championship with a first away win of the season, thanks to goals from Conor Chaplin and Victor Adeboyejo. Valerien Ismael’s side was very aggressive, made a lot of pressure and played with high intensity throughout the match, which is a performance they will try to repeat on Saturday.
Nottingham, on the other hand, travel to Barnsley on Saturday as they look to continue their solid run under Chris Hughton (W3-D3-L1). However, despite their upturn in form, Forest are still sitting in 20th place, and will be very aware of how hard it will be to drag themselves away from the relegation zone. Notts Forest had two must-win games at home to fellow strugglers Coventry (2-1) and Wycombe (2-0) before the break, and it was important they got maximum points there as they face a run of much tougher games next.
Most recently, against Wycombe, two goals from Lyle Taylor, who also scored an injury-time winner for Forest against Coventry, made the difference at the City Ground again, to make it back-to-back wins for Nottingham and ended Wycombe's three-match unbeaten run. Chris Hughton’s appointment last month has steadied the ship, and improved performances will give Forest the confidence coming into this match.

The Tykes want to follow up a 2-0 win over Derby County with another home win, having registered three wins in the previous four league fixtures. In their last meeting in the league, Barnsley defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 thanks to Cauley Woodrow’s goal, but on Saturday we expect more resistance from the Reds.
Away from home, each of Forest’s last 9 competitive matches have produced under 2.5 total goals, and they produced a measly 1.5 total goals per away match average this term in the league. Visiting Forest have won one league game (W1, D3, L4).
However, the Reds have been showing signs of improvement recently, with the back-to-back wins against Coventry and Wycombe in the previous two league matches.
BettingKick’s prediction for Barnsley vs Nottingham match is: Under 2.5 goals
