Barnsley host Reading at the Oakwell (Barnsley) in the 39th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Friday, April 2. Read our reasons for Barnsley vs Reading prediction and betting tips.
After winning nine of their last eleven league games, momentum is clear with Barnsley, with Valerien Ismael’s side sitting fifth in the table despite a 2-1 defeat by Sheffield Wed last time out. The Tykes are in promotion form after Ismael’s thirty-one league games in charge had yielded sixty points. While their remarkable run may have come to an end, there should be nothing taken away from the recent performances of Barnsley. On the other hand, it is getting towards crunch time in the Championship with Reading one of a number of teams battling hard for a play-off spot. Veljko Paunovic's side are currently in sixth place - the fourth and final play-off position - going into the final eight matches of the campaign.
It is a significant understatement to suggest that Ismael has surpassed expectations since arriving at Barnsley. He has positively smashed them. Consolidation in the second tier after last season's relegation near-miss was the primary aim. Now the Reds find themselves in fifth place in the table and in the promotion mix heading into the final month or so of the season. The team have now built a culture where they expect to show up and not only compete, but win every game.
Given the success of that run that has now propelled the Tykes into the battle for promotion to the Premier League, it is inevitable that the club are now going to face a busy transfer window dealing with interest in the key men that have helped them get that far. But as well as giving the Yorkshire club the job of fending off that interest, it also leaves them with the prospect of having to further strengthen their squad when the market reopens, in order to build on those impressive results and performances of the past few months.
As for Reading, their top-six prospects are out of their hands, however, with nearest challengers Bournemouth just three points behind them and with a game in hand. It means the Cherries - who also have a superior goal difference - will make the top six should they win all of their remaining games and Reading would drop out. There is still plenty of football to be played, though, with Cardiff and Boro both hoping to mount a late push and break into the play-off places.
Still, if recent results are anything to go by, Reading do appear slightly vulnerable. With a disappointing 1-1 draw against the QPR last time out, the Royals' top six fate is no longer in their hands going into the final eight games of the season. Veljko Paunovic's side have some tricky games in their run-in. Apart from this six-pointer against Barnsley, three of the final four away games are against sides above them in the table so the outcome of these games could decide their fate, while home clashes with Swansea and Norwich will also be critical.

Barnsley meet Reading having previously won none of their last seven league matches against the Royals (D3, L4) since a 3-1 away win in March 2014. Moreover, Reading are looking to complete a league double over Barnsley for the first time since the 2010/11 season, when they made it to the play-off final.
After a run of nine wins in 10 Championship games, Barnsley lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wed last time out. The Tykes haven’t lost consecutive league outings since losing their first three games of this calendar year. Meanwhile, Reading have won five of their six league matches against Yorkshire teams this season (D1), winning their last three in a row.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
