Barnsley host Watford at the Oakwell (Barnsley) in the 9th round of the Championship on Saturday, October 31 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
After eight weeks in the league Barnsley are in 18th with 7 points after they picked up their first win of the campaign against QPR (3-0) on Tuesday after drawing their previous three games. Apart from the victory ion the last round, they have drawn four times and lost three games. Fair to them, those three defeats came in the first four rounds and their form has improved since then.
As for Watford, they have stagnated a little after two consecutive wins and have managed only to draw their last two matches. That has been enough for 5th place in the table with 15 points after their latest away draw against struggling Wycombe (1-1).The Cherries suffered their only league defeat to Reading in the 4th week (1-0), and are unbeaten in their four matches since then (W2-D2).
MATCH ANALYSIS
After spending most of the 2020/2021 season under the drop line, in the bottom tree, Barnsley succeeded to miraculously escape the relegation on the final day of the campaign. Unfortunately, they have started this new campaign in the same vein as they are sitting near the relegation zone. However, there are some encouraging signs. They haven't found the net in the first three games, but have managed to get on the score-sheet in their last five fixtures and finally get a win.
After they appointed new head coach Valerian Ismael to succeed Gerhard Struber, he got his tenure off to a winning start as his side overcame 10-man QPR for their first win in the Championship this season. The win moved Barnsley three points above the relegation zone and into 16th, leapfrogging Rangers who drop to 18th position.
Watford, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back immediately to top flight and hope that a new manager Vladimir Ivic can set the foundations to their quick return to Premier League. After three solid performances on the trot they lost to Reading, but bounced back with two wins – against Derby and Blackburn. They drew against another promotion candidates Bournemouth next, but underperformed against bottom-fodders Wycombe (1-1).
Wycombe, who lost their opening seven league matches coming into this fixture, had lost every competitive match since their League One play-off win over Oxford United last July.Watford was definitely below par throughout the match and were even fortunate to hold to a point as the Chairboys were denied a complete turnaround with referee penalising Samuels for obstructing Watford keeper Foster. It is probably just a blip for Cherries as they have a chance to bounce back when they visit Barnsley.

These two sides have met 14 times since 2007 and the visitors have a slightly better record with & wins to Barnsley’s 5.
They have not shared the league since 2013/14 and Barnsley recorded only 1 victory in their last 8 matches (D2-L5).
Starting steady, Barnsley have lost only three Championship matches so far (W1, D4, L3) and have scored the opening goal before HT in each of their previous four. However, they’ve struggled to maintain leads, and conceded an equaliser in three of those four fixtures, securing just one win as a result.
Watford opened the scoring for the 6th time in midweek (only league leaders Reading can better this number) and extended their unbeaten run when doing so to 8 league matches (W5, D3).
One win across four Championship road trips is a slight concern though (W1, D2, L1).
My prediction for this match is: Watford win

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
