RB Leipzig needs to beat Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey and maintain their push to qualify from UEFA Champions League Group H on Wednesday.
Competing in the Champions League for the first time in their history, Basaksehir earned their first and so far only points in the competition on Matchday 3, with Ba scoring the opener in a 2-1 win at home to Manchester United. Champions of Turkey for the first time last season, the Istanbul club currently sit seventh in the league, having lost their opening three matches and are now without a win in two. The most recent of those saw them throw away a 3-0 lead at home to Denizlispor on Saturday, conceding two goals in injury time to draw 3-3 and find themselves nine points off the top.
Their squad features a number of former Bundesliga names in Ba (Hoffenheim), Berkay Özcan (VfB Stuttgart and Hamburg), Junior Caicara (Schalke) and Hasan Ali Kaldirim (Kaiserslautern and Mainz). Of them, Caicara is the team’s only guaranteed absentee with an Achilles tendon injury. Basaksehir have failed to win four of five meetings with Bundesliga clubs (D2, L2), drawing both previous home games 1-1 (against Hoffenheim and Borussia Mönchengladbach).
Basaksehir: Babacan - Rafael, Skrtel, Epureanu, Bolingoli - Visca (c), Özcan, Kahveci, Türüc - Crivelli, Ba
Out: Caicara (Achilles tendon)
Doubtful: Aleksic (not included), Günok (not included), Topal (knock)
Coach: Okan Buruk
French central defender, and one of the most wanted players in Europe, Dayot Upamecano has started all four of Leipzig’s Champions League games this season, which has seen them win both home fixtures against Basaksehir (2-0) and Paris Saint-Germain (2-1). It leaves them level with the French champions on six points following their narrow 1-0 defeat in Paris last week. Julian Nagelsmann’s side know a result in Istanbul in the day’s early kick-off will move them up to second and apply pressure ahead of PSG’s trip to Manchester United later in the evening.
Angelino grabbed both goals in the space of four first-half minutes in the Matchday 1 win over the Turkish champions. The Spanish full-back is Leipzig’s top scorer this season with six goals in all competitions, adding yet another in the weekend’s 2-1 victory at home to Arminia Bielefeld. Angelino has not missed a game for Leipzig this season, registering six goals and two assists in 14 competitive appearances.
Alexander Sorloth started that game but is expected to give way to Yussuf Poulsen again. Sorloth - who is out to break his Leipzig duck - scored 33 goals in 49 appearances whilst on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor last season, including one against Basaksehir. The 2019/20 Champions League semi-finalists are currently second in the Bundesliga table and just two points off leaders Bayern Munich. They meet on Saturday at the Allianz Arena as part of a big week for die Roten Bullen, ahead of their final group game at home to Manchester United the following Tuesday.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Konate, Upamecano, Halstenberg - Haidara, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Forsberg - Poulsen
Out: Henrichs (knee), Hwang (not included), Klostermann (knee), Laimer (knee)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann

Istanbul made a big step forward with winning the title in Turkey and entering the group stage of the UCL but in this group, they are without a chance of progressing to the knockout stages of UCL or UEL. Leipzig must win if they want to repeat last year's success so an away win is the most reasonable bet here.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
