Robert Lewandowski can be expected to continue his goalscoring form when Bayern Munich host relegation-threatened Mainz on Sunday.
The year 2020 belonged to Lewandowski as much as it did quintuple winners Bayern. FIFA's Best Player scored 55 goals in all competitions in 2019/20 and has added another 20 to his tally not even halfway into the current campaign. A league-leading 17 have fallen in the Bundesliga, including year-ending braces against Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen, which ultimately sent the record champions in at the winter break top of the standings. The Pole has a habit of scoring against Mainz, too, with 16 goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances.
The returning Joshua Kimmich played his part in Bayern's table-toppling victory over Leverkusen and is expected to make his first start since Matchday 7. Leon Goretzka should also slot back into the center of midfield after missing a couple of games with a muscular complaint. Alphonso Davies started the Leverkusen win in an attacking wide role, while Niklas Süle was preferred to Benjamin Pavard at right-back for the second game in a row. Hansi Flick, who oversaw 42 wins from 48 games in 2020, may well stick with both men.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Süle, Boateng, Alaba, Hernandez - Kimmich, Goretzka - Coman, Müller, Davies - Lewandowski
Out: Nianzou (thigh)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Hansi Flick
Whoever Flick deploys at the Allianz Arena, it could be a chastening start to the new year for second-bottom Mainz. The 05ers travel to Munich with only one league win under their belts all season, and six points to show for the first 36 on offer. A last-gasp defeat to Werder Bremen on Matchday 13 cast them five points adrift of outright safety, with the ensuing penalty shoot-out defeat to second-tier Bochum in the DFB Cup second round - a game which Mainz led 2-0 - bringing seriously bad tidings for Jan-Moritz Lichte.
He was shown the door just 12 matches after replacing Achim Beierlorzer in the dug-out, with academy coach Jan Siewert handed the reins in an interim capacity. The former Borussia Dortmund reserves and Huddersfield Town tactician will be without defenders Phillipp Mwene and Moussa Niakhate on his Bundesliga debut but could welcome back attacking midfielder Levin Öztunali to the matchday squad.
Mainz: Zentner - St. Juste, Fernandes, Hack - Brosinski, Barreiro, Latza (c), Boetius, Martin - Mateta, Quaison
Out: Mwene (knee), Niakhate (suspended)
Doubtful: Öztunali (thigh), Szalai (knee)
Coach: Jan Siewert

Mainz is winless in their last eight against Bayern, losing seven, and Lewandowski has scored three in his last three meetings against them so his goal and a big win for Bayern is almost a sure bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
