It is a usual in the Bundesliga that last season champions open up a new one and in the last eight years, Bayern is the team that plays on Friday night, this time against Schalke at Allianz Arena.
The 58th German First League edition will start with the European champions Bayern Munich taking on last season 12th placed Schalke. When you are looking at what Bayern did in 2020 it is obvious that you see the only possible outcome, a huge host win but it could be interesting to see two things, are they still in such good shape as at the end of the last season and how the renewed Schalke can perform against the big favorites. Bayern has the best attackers in the world, they have scored nearly 3 goals per game on an average in the last season, the combination of Muller, Sane, Gnabry, Koman playing for Robert Lewandowski could be devastating for any defense in the world.
They are on a 28-match unbeaten streak, scored easily past Barcelona, Lyon, or Chelsea and only PSG was able to manage to concede only one goal at the final game of the season in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern is currently on a 21-match winning streak, after a scoreless draw in February with Leipzig. The last time Bayern was beaten was in December 2019 when they had a 2-1 loss at Monchengladbach. Since that game, only six of Bayern’s last 29 matches have been decided by less than two goals. The German giants did well to keep hold of key players in the transfer window, with Leroy Sane joining the club for an initial £41m. The pacey winger, could face his former club on Friday evening and show his skills to the fan for the first time after long term injury.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Pavard, Süle, Alaba, Davies - Kimmich, Goretzka - Gnabry, Müller, Sane - Lewandowski
Out: Nianzou (thigh)
Doubtful: Boateng (hamstring)
Coach: Hansi Flick
As with most teams in the German top flight, Schalke has a very poor head-to-head record against Bayern – winless against them in 19 competitive meetings. Based on the the gulf in talent between the two sides, it’s hard to expect a surprise. They will have a chance, the defense must stop Bayern’s relentless attack. Nastasić, Kabak and others will have to step up their game and play a perfect match to erase differences in individual quality. Schalke set an embarrassing club record of 16 league matches without a win in the second half of the season. They must prove to the fans that this team can play better and lean on the last two wins in the friendly games that gathered some confidence. Truth is, Schalke was lucky to hang on to its place in the Bundesliga, and things don't look much better. They lost their main guy, American midfielder Weston McKinnie that led the attack with flair and creativity, that was one of the worst in the last season.
McKinnie left for Juventus and with the COVID situation and a lack of European soccer, without money coming in, Schalke had no choice but to sell its best player. Rabbi Matondo could be the next major star for the Gelzenkirhen team but Welshman is still a teenager and without consistency on this level. He will wait for his chance and strikers like Uth and Ibišević must found a way to hold the ball and ease the pressure from the defense. Both of them are capable to score when given chance but it is a big question of how many times they will be in the penalty box in front of Neuer. Serdar, Stambouli, and Bentaleb could cope with the Bavarian midfield but speed and pace are on side of the champions.
Schalke: Fährmann - Rudy, Kabak, Nastasic, Oczipka - Serdar, Stambouli (c), Bentaleb - Harit - Uth, Ibisevic
Out: Sane (knee)
Doubtful: -
Coach: David Wagner

There are many ways to celebrate titles and one of them is to give fans good vibes for the new season. Bayern could send a sign to all rivals in Bundesliga and Europe that they are ready to defend all titles and over 4,5 goals could be easier than this line suggests.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
