Belarus host Estonia on Saturday in the first match of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. Read our reasons for Belarus vs Estonia prediction and betting tips.
The hosts, the former Soviet republic was free in the first round of the 2022 WC Qualifiers, so this will be their first match in the qualifiers. Belarus is well aware that they have little hope of contending for a playoff spot with the likes of Belgium or Wales so they are putting the focus on games such as the one at the weekend. On the same day that Estonia capitulated against the Czech Republic, Belarus claimed a respectable 1-1 draw with Honduras having played the final 36 minutes with 10 men. Their recent victories over Kazakhstan and Lithuania gave them much-needed self-confidence as an unbeaten home record to three games was unlikely in the past and coach Mikhail Markhel is certainly satisfied with how things are going at the moment.
Despite the improvements made over the past 12 months, matches such as this one will define his influence on the team. They are nowhere near capable to qualify for a big event such as World Cup but they will be more than satisfied to grab some points in the games with a rival such as Estonia, so a win is pretty much expected by football fans in Belarus. They have failed to qualify for any major international competition since the fall of the USSR, and a group with Belgium and the Czech Republic or Wales is hardly a good chance for them to achieve the biggest success in the country’s history. Having made four changes by the 62nd minute against Honduras, Markhel may look to name the same Belarus XI. Despite his dismissal earlier in the week, Dzyanis Laptev should line up in attack for the home side.
Belarus: Pavlyuchenko; Yuzepchuk, Shvetsov, Pavlovets, Polyakov; Kislyak, Maevskiy, Signevich; Ebong, Laptev, Savitskiy
As Belarus, Estonia is in a similar situation, they are playing to win these types of games because they already hit the big football wall. They have taken an early lead versus the Czech Republic on Wednesday night and built a moment to dream about victory against a big rival, but Thomas Haberli men were in knockdown an hour later. The perfect start turned into a complete nightmare as his side conceded six goals in the space of 38 minutes, reflecting all the problems Estonia has defensively, and not only defensively. Estonia has a tough-to-swallow streak, 17 matches without success, their only victory in 20 attempts came against minnows Gibraltar, and they are aware that another defeat will leave thrash already low confidence that they can make any kind of turnaround.
While Rauno Sappinen and Henri Anier added to their respective tallies for their country on Wednesday, only five members of this squad have scored goals on the international stage. Estonia currently looks like one of the teams that could be comfortable put in the lowest part of the European football nations standings and they will struggle to get any points in this cycle. Probably, their only hope could be a match against another poor team, as Belarus certainly is. Haberli will freshen up his Estonia team, introducing the likes of Sander Puri and Anier. Marek Kaljumae could also be brought into the defense, taking the place of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Maksim Paskotsi, who made his debut against the Czech Republic.
Estonia: Aksalu; Antonov, Purg, Kaljumae, Lilander; Alliku, Poom, Puri, Oigus; Vassiljev; Anier

Both of these teams are not the best offensively. They are struggling to beat better teams but they also have problems when facing rivals with similar quality. BettingKick’s Belarus vs Estonia prediction: Under 2.5 goals.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
