BELGIUM VS ENGLAND MATCH ANALYSIS
With England losing to Denmark at Wembley Stadium in October, Belgium remains in pole position to win their UEFA Nations group, something which could hinge on the reverse fixture between the sides on Sunday evening. They are top of the group, two points above Denmark and England ahead of the two final matches. As for England, the Three Lions suffered a shocking 0-1 loss to Denmark in the Nations League last month, meaning that they are eager to return to winning ways. They are now third in their group, and with only the winners progressing to the Nations League finals in 2021, they must pick themselves up for a strong finish to this campaign.
England had the better of Belgium in their reverse fixture in October (2-1), but with three wins in this group, Belgium is in pole position to qualify. The Red Devils aim to get their revenge on England for that loss at Wembley Stadium, and a win over the Three Lions will see Roberto Martinez’s troop's cement top position in the standings. Romelu Lukaku is rated doubtful for the game, while Kevin de Bruyne returns to the starting line-up after missing the October games through injury.
With a 12-match winning streak contributing to Belgium becoming the world's best side, Martinez would have expected more of the same from their October’s fixtures. However, Belgium delivered three below-par performances, with a draw in a friendly against Ivory Coast, and a defeat at the hands of England being followed by a scrappy win in Iceland.
As for England’s last match against Denmark, it was only England's third home defeat (0-1) in their past 50 competitive internationals on home soil. But it was thoroughly deserved. Manchester United's captain Harry Maguire suffered a 31-minute nightmare and England's night got worse four minutes later when Christian Eriksen scored his 34th goal for Denmark from the penalty spot. In midweek England strolled to victory against the Republic of Ireland (3-0) in their friendly international at Wembley.
Manager Gareth Southgate gave his undercard a chance as he kept England's main players back for the Uefa Nations League match in Belgium on Sunday - but they still had far too much for an outclassed Republic side. It was hard to make any serious judgments in such a low-key friendly but Southgate will be pleased England was able to show such domination for almost the entire game.

Sunday’s match will be the 24th match involving England and Belgium, but the Three Lions have dominated over the years. England’s record in 25 games against Belgium reads W16 D5 L4. They had lost their last two encounters with the Red Devils both at the 2018 World Cup: 1-0 in the group stage and 2-0 in the third-place play-off, before they won their Nations League group stage match at Wembley (2-1) in October. The sides have met only four times at the old and new Wembley stadiums; England won three of those matches, drawing the other. Will we see more of the same here or can England record their second victory over Belgium on the trot?
