Belgium host Wales at the King Baudouin Stadium (Brussel) in the Group E 1st round of the UEFA World Cup qualifications and the match kicks of at 7.45 pm (UK) on Wednesday, March 24th. Read our reasons for Belgium vs Wales prediction and betting tips.
The Belgians have been cruising through their competition in the UEFA nations league, coming into this game in top form. They’ll be looking to dominate from the very first minute to assert their intent and four wins in a row up until this game is just a glimpse of what this team is capable of producing. However, despite Belgium’s rise as one of the finest teams in Europe over recent years, Wales are looking for their third straight victory over the Red Devils this week. Belgium may be No.1 in the FIFA World Rankings, but the Welsh are unbeaten in their last four games (W2, D2) against Roberto Martinez’s side.
Belgium possess incredible quality throughout the squad, despite captain Eden Hazard missing this game after suffering yet another injury setback. The likes of Premier League stars Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans will still be present though, along with the second-highest scorer in Serie A, Romelu Lukaku, who was doubtful because of a coronavirus outbreak in the Internazionale squad. Belgium’s 2-1 defeat to England at Wembley in October is their only loss in their last 18 matches.
The Red Devils have won 16 of those fixtures, scoring 57 goals and conceding only eight in the process. After racking up win after win in the UEFA Nations League, Roberto Martinez and his men seem intent on emulating those performances and results, and possibly build on it as they go into this fixture. Failure seems like an issue that’s nonexistent to them at the moment. And they’ll be hoping to come away with a result that shows for their recent dominance.
As for Wales, Gareth Bale got the only goal of the game when Wales beat the Belgians 1-0 in Cardiff in qualification for Euro 2016. The Tottenham forward, who will captain his country here, has been getting back to his best form in recent weeks following a slow start to his loan from Real Madrid. However, there’ll be no Ryan Giggs in the Welsh dugout. The Wales manager is on bail following his arrest on suspicion of assault in November, with Robert Page taking temporary charge of the team for this difficult trip to Belgium.
Even though Wales have enjoyed some wonderful success against the Red Devils in recent years, this remains an almighty task for the away team. On the other hand, if Wales are to show that they can compete at a world-class level, a performance that’s in line with it is the way to go. Wales have won their opening group stage match in two of the previous three World Cup qualifying campaigns – 1-0 vs Azerbaijan in 2008 and 4-0 vs Moldova in 2016. And what better way to do it than produce a result against the mighty Belgians.

Belgium meet Wales for the first time since the EURO 2016 quarter final – after taking an early lead through Radja Nainggolan, Belgium were beaten 3-1 by Wales. Belgium have won 23 of their last 24 qualifying matches (European Championships/World Cup). They are also unbeaten in qualifying for the European Championships or World Cup since September 2010 against Germany – they are without a defeat in 24 since (W18, D6).
Meanwhile, Wales have only lost four of their last 30 qualifying matches for the European Championships or World Cup (W15 D11) and haven’t shipped a goal in their last four competitive away matches (W3 D1), a run of 397 minutes without conceding on the road.
