Benevento and Cagliari are desperate for points in the race for survival and their meeting could determine the last team to be relegated to Serie B. Read our reasons for Benevento vs Cagliari prediction and betting tips.
Crotone and Parma were officially relegated to Serie B last week. Benevento is third from the bottom with 31 points, Cagliari has just one more. Benevento has won just one game since the reverse fixture in January: a shocking 1-0 victory against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. Pippo Inzaghi was fully prepared for Benevento to take some risks against Milan, noting they ‘also created plenty of chances and showed courage.’ Le Streghe continues to slide down the standings after this 2-0 defeat at his hunting ground of San Siro, decided by Hakan Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez goals. They now have one win from their last 18 games, but that was a 1-0 result at the Allianz Juventus Stadium, and one point from five rounds. “We knew that we would run some risks here, but we also created plenty of chances and both goalkeepers had to make some tough saves,” Inzaghi told the media.
Inzaghi was visibly irritated with the referee just before half-time when Ismael Bennacer risked a second yellow card. “We conceded an early goal and so had to open up a bit more. If you come to San Siro and park the bus, you will concede sooner or later. A team that needs to save itself has to show courage, so even if we allowed a few counter-attacks, I’d prefer that to show fear. In the end, there were 20 shots to 14, so that showed the spirit we had here as a newly-promoted club. My main regret is the second goal, as our defenders weren’t lined up properly and we had worked on that. The first goal was a well-worked move. I knew Iago Falque could only really play one half, so I hoped this risk would also get minutes in his legs for the next game. Gianluca Caprari wasn’t fit to start either, so we tried a 4-2-3-1. We started this journey last season, now we want to finish it by securing our Serie A status and I believe this squad has what it takes to stay in the top flight.”
Benevento (3-5-2): Montipò; Caldirola, Glik, Barba; Depaoli, Ionita, Schiattarella, Hetemaj, Improta; Caprari, Lapadula

Injured: Sau, Foulon, Moncini
Leonardo Semplici believes Cagliari deserved to pick up a point against Napoli: ‘It must give us awareness and strength.’ A Naithan Nandez goal leveled the score in stoppages and allowed the Sardinians to climb one point above Benevento, who are third from the bottom with 31 points. “This point is worth so much and it must give us awareness and strength,” Semplici told the media. “We played a great game against the most in-form team of the league right now. We played as we had planned. We have suffered, and we had created a few chances to score the equalizer earlier. We deserve to take a point home.”
Cagliari shocked Napoli with a last-gasp Nahitan Nandez equalizer after Victor Osimhen had opened the scoring. The Nigeria international had pounced early on from Lorenzo Insigne’s assist, but the Sardinians were always in the match, Gabriele Zappa and Nandez thumping the woodwork between Alex Meret heroics. Diego Demme also rattled the frame of the goal for Napoli, but in stoppages, Alfred Duncan floated a ball over the top for Nandez to slide in at the back post.
Cagliari (3-4-2-1): Cragno; Ceppitelli, Godin, Carboni; Nandez, Marin, Duncan, Nainggolan, Lykogiannis; Joao Pedro, Pavoletti
Suspended: none
Injured: Pereiro, Rog, Sottil

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
