Newly-promoted Benevento completed a turnaround in the match against Sampdoria at the weekend but will face a tougher challenge in their second game of the season, as Serie A runners-up from last season, Inter, arrive at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito on Wednesday.
Benevento completed an extraordinary comeback from 2-0 down to beat Sampdoria 3-2 at Marassi, with Luca Caldirola’s brace and Gaetano Letizia. This was the first game of the season for Pippo Inzaghi’s team, whose first-round match with Inter was postponed to September 30 due to the Inter's success in the Europa League.
Benevento looked like a newcomer at the beginning of the match, as goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò made a huge mistake with a misplaced pass, intercepted by Bonazzoli to set up the Quagliarella tap-in. Candreva than marked his debut with an assist, curling a cross after a short corner on to the head of Omar Colley to double Sampdoria’s advantage but Benevento kept playing and pushing for a goal. Gabriele Moncini first thought his header at the back post was in, but Emil Audero somehow managed to claw it off the line, and he was really good a moment later after a Bryan Dabo snapshot that he turned to the corner. Maybe Audero was good but his defenders weren’t as Luca Caldirola fired in from just inside the area.
After the restart, the visitors kept going, with Roberto Insigne’s shot and Moncini who could become a hero twice but missed from good chances. Benevento got their hero in a Caldirola, this time with a glancing header on a corner at the near post for an equalizer.
Pippo Inzaghi introduced more strikers, and that positive attitude paid off as Marco set it up for Gaetano Letizia’s shot from outside the area into the near bottom corner. Benevento dominated Serie B last term, winning with a 20-point gap from the second, but transformed with numerous new players over the summer, so Inzaghi will be thrilled with the start of the campaign.
Inter scored two goals in two minutes to beat Fiorentina 4-3 after trailing 3-2 in a spectacular seven-goal San Siro thriller. Inter got too many problems in the defense in the last season and Giacomo Bonaventura and Christian Kouame reminded them there is a still a lot of work to do when they were allowed so much time and space to complete a double give-and-go on the edge of the six-yard box, evading the offside flag for Kouame’s tap-in. Croatian duo Marcelo Brozovic and Perisic couldn’t turn in headers at the back post, and Samir Handanovic had to stop Kouame scoring one-on-one when sent clear by the Franck Ribery assist.
Nikola Milenkovic almost doubled Viola’s lead with a header, Inter takes control but scored on the counter-attack, with Lautaro Martinez scoring from the edge of the area to equalize. Lautaro was responsible for the turnaround, managed to get his shot from a tricky angle, causing Federico Ceccherini to put it into his net.
Fiorentina got back on the level, Castrovilli started and completed his run by meeting the Ribery pass to drill into the far bottom corner. Viola turned the game around completely, Ribery provided a perfect pass for Chiesa to send him clear, and the Italian lobbed on-rushing Handanovic. Inter pushed hard but Fiorentina had to finish the game when Ribery’s inspired pass sent Dusan Vlahovic clear, he hit it high and wide unmarked.
In the end, Inter showed character for the title run. Radja Nainggolan’s ball over the top found Hakimi and Lukaku only had to tap in for 3-3 and the moments later, Alexis Sanchez’s cross on a short corner found Danilo D’Ambrosio’s header at the back post, for final 4-3.

Inter has great rotation, phenomenal offensive power but they still lack composure at the back. Benevento showed great fighting spirit, they know how to react so both teams to score and over 2,5 goals are our most preferable bets.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
