League leaders AC Milan take on Benevento at the Municipal Stadium Ciro Vigorito on Sunday.
Benevento continues to march up the table after a shock 2-0 victory away to Udinese, sealed by Gianluca Caprari and Gaetano Letizia. Benevento took the lead soon after when Gianluca Caprari placed a daisy-cutter from the edge of the box into the far bottom corner on Roberto Insigne’s assist. Caprari could’ve had another, but he scuffed one wide, then another took a deflection off Kevin Bonifazi to loop just wide of the target. Udinese poured forward with an Ignacio Pussetto header off target and Rodrigo Becao volley failing to make the most of the Rodrigo De Paul pass. Benevento doubled their lead with a remarkable goal from Gaetano Letizia, who burst down the right and managed to fire it right-footed into the far top corner from the tightest of angles.
Benevento is without central defenders Luca Caldirola and Massimo Volta due to injury. Christian Maggio and Iago Falque are currently unfit and will not be able to play a part in this game. Bryan Dabo has recovered from his knock and is likely to play a part in this fixture. Inzaghi will probably stick with the 4-3-2-1 system which has brought his side so much success under his tutelage.
Benevento (4-3-2-1): Lorenzo Montipo; Federico Barba, Daam Foulon, Kamil Glik, Gaetano Letizia; Riccardo Improta, Pasquale Schiattarella, Perparim Hetemaj; Roberto Insigne, Gianluca Caprari; Gianluca Lapadula
Milan maintained the Serie A leadership after a five-goal thriller, as Lazio came back from 2-0 down for 2-2, but Theo Hernandez struck in stoppages yet again. The Rossoneri had surged into the early lead through Ante Rebic’s header and a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty. Lazio fought back, as although Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Ciro Immobile’s penalty, Luis Alberto turned in the rebound. Immobile got revenge eventually, beating Donnarumma from open play for 2-2. Deep into stoppages, Theo Hernandez’s glancing header from a corner sparked wild celebrations at San Siro.
After the short winter break, Milan should have Simon Kjaer back from injury and Franck Kessie returns in the middle against Benevento. Danish defender returned to training after a month out with a muscle problem and could be called up for the next match. Kessie should return to the midfield as well, after having sat out against Lazio due to a one-match ban. Milan is unbeaten in Serie A 2020-21 and ahead of the match against Filippo Inzaghi’s men, they sit one point above local rivals Inter in the Scudetto battle.
Milan is likely to remain without the services of top goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to a calf injury, but the club does expect him to return at some point in January. Samu Castillejo, Matteo Gabbia, Ismael Bennacer, and Alexis Saelemaekers are also ruled out of the trip to Benevento due to injury. Theo Hernandez has accumulated one yellow card too many this season and is suspended.
AC Milan (4-2-3-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Diogo Dalot, Alessio Romagnoli, Simon Kjaer, Davide Calabria; Franck Kessie, Sandro Tonali; Brahim Diaz, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic; Rafael Leao

Milan is under Inter pressure but they have the talent and self-confidence to win again. Benevento is good, but probably not good enough to stop the leader. Away win is our first betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
