Filippo Inzaghi and Gennaro Gattuso meet at the Ciro Vigorito on Sunday for the third-ever game in Serie A between Benevento and Napoli.
Benevento is a team very capable of scoring, yet unable to keep things tight at the back. They allowed the most goals in the league with 12, however, a return of eight goals scored is tied for seventh overall. Each of those losses was by heavy scorelines and against top-flight teams in Roma and Inter Milan, proof that they are at least capable of scoring against some of the league’s top sides. None of their goals have come from penalties either, as one of several teams to still have not been awarded a PK.
Nicolas Viola, Gabriele Moncini, and Federico Barba are injured for the hosts while the former Napoli captain Cristian Maggio will start as a right-back. Lorenzo Insigne’s brother Roberto will be included in Benevento’s starting XI to complete Inzaghi’s attacking trident with Gianluca Lapadula and Andrea Caprari.
Benevento (4-3-3): Montipò; Maggio, Caldirola, Glik, Letizia; Ionita, Schiattarella, Dabo; Caprari, Insigne, Lapadula
Suspended: none
Injured: Viola, Moncini, Barba
Napoli had a rollercoaster week, they had an amazing performance vs Atalanta in a 4-1 win but a few days later were defeated vs AZ at the start of the UEFA Europa League group stage. The team from Alkmaar had 13 positive coronavirus cases in the days before the match and were heavy outsiders to win at Sao Paolo.
Gattuso stayed with the 4-2-3-1 formation that smashed Atalanta 4-1 at the weekend, as Lorenzo Insigne was only fit for the bench, Stanislav Lobotka stepped in for Tiemoue Bakayoko but the starting lineup showed that Napoli wants fast goals and an easy win. There were close calls at both ends caused by wayward passes, first Yukinari Sugawara and then Dries Mertens drilling inches wide. Kalidou Koulibaly nodded a corner over the bar, but for all Napoli’s possession, they were rarely dangerous and were caught out when AZ took the lead. Svensson got to the by-line and pulled back for De Wit, who was allowed to fire in from seven yards relatively undisturbed, escaping Koulibaly's late tackle.
Lorenzo Insigne made his comeback from injury and Mario Rui put a fine cross on the head of Osimhen, but the Nigerian’s finish was weak and straight at the goalkeeper. Andrea Petagna came off the bench and his diving header was not far wide, as Napoli laid siege to the AZ box with a series of crosses, and Politano’s left-foot scorcher was deflected to skim the upright. Giovanni Di Lorenzo went sliding in at the back post, unable to fully control the Insigne cross, but the Partenopei were simply unable to turn their possession into goals or even particularly impressive chances.
That was their second defeat in this season, with first when the authorities forbid them from traveling to face Juventus in Round 3, resulting in a 3-0 forfeit and point deduction. Otherwise, Napoli is undefeated in the league with three wins: 2-0 over Parma, 6-0 over Genoa, and 4-1 over Atalanta. Hirving Lozano with four goals has also gotten off to a hot start, currently holding a share of the scoring lead with two goals in each of his past two matches.
Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas are still positive for Coronavirus and are not going to play. Luckily for Rino Gattuso, they are the only players who are out of action for the derby.
Napoli (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Hysaj; Fabian Ruiz, Bakayoko; Lozano, Mertens, Insigne; Osimhen
Suspended: none
Injured: Zielinski, Elmas

Napoli must be the favorite to win this game but with Benevento’s style of play and very decent offensive power both teams to score looks like the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
