Struggling Arminia Bielefeld will be hoping Mainz hot scoring duo Robin Quaison and Jean-Philippe Mateta misfire at the SchücoArena on Saturday.
Bielefeld will try to end the first half of the season on a much better level and earn as many points as they could before the winter break. After holding Eintracht Frankfurt to a 1-1 draw and beating Koln 1-0 on Matchdays 1 and 2 respectively, Uwe Neuhaus's side has suffered seven straight defeats. Fabian Klos' first Bundesliga goal couldn't spare them against title challengers RB Leipzig last Saturday as the 2019/20 Bundesliga 2 champions slipped into the automatic relegation zone for the first time since returning to the elite. If results go against them once more, Bielefeld may well end the weekend at the bottom of the standings.
Work ethics is there, Bielefeld duo Manuel Prietl (78.9 miles) and Marcel Hartel (76.7 miles) have covered more ground than any other Bundesliga players this season, but Bielefeld has scored a league-low six goals. Winger Cebio Soukou has begun the last two games on the bench but could be recalled to the starting line-up at the expense of Reinhold Yabo. Defender Joakim Nilsson replaced the injured Amos Pieper in Leipzig and should be involved from the start this time.
Bielefeld: Ortega - Brunner, Van der Hoorn, Nilsson, Lucoqui - Seufert, Preitl - Doan, Hartel, Soukou - Klos (c)
Out: Pieper (thigh)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Uwe Neuhaus
A Mainz team made a big U-turn and will not be doing any favor to Bielefeld's survival hopes. With only one point and a place better than their hosts, Mainz started the first six games of the season without a point before breaking their bad luck in the Matchday 7 draw with rock-bottom Schalke. They've since beat Freiburg 3-1 away and held Hoffenheim to a 1-1 home draw. Mainz haven’t kept a clean sheet this season, and have conceded more goals than ever before at this stage of a campaign (22). Mainz's Robin Zentner has kept out more shots (37) than any other goalkeeper in 2020/21.
Quaison opened the scoring last time out, ending a six-match goalless spell in the process, while Mateta followed up his effort against Schalke with a hat-trick in Freiburg. Of Mainz's 11 league goals this campaign, the Frenchman - stopped by injury the last term - has scored seven. Having scored seven and provided one assist, Mateta has been directly involved in 73 percent of Mainz’s goals this term.
Lichte is expected to make one change to the team that went toe-to-toe with Hoffenheim, with Jonathan Burkardt set to fill in for the injured Levin Öztunali on the right of midfield. Club captain Danny Latza could feature if he overcomes a back complaint in time.
Mainz: Zentner - St. Juste, Hack, Niakhate (c) - Burkardt, Barreiro, Fernandes, Brosinski - Boetius, Quaison - Mateta
Out: Mwene (ankle), Öztunali (thigh), Szalai (knee)
Doubtful: Latza (back)
Coach: Jan-Moritz Lichte

Mainz lifted their confidence with two good results but they are still performing better than the standings show. Bielefeld will have a tough task to earn victory here, they are lacking creativity, chances, and goals, and Mainz could have an advantage here. Away win looks like a good value bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
