Birmingham host Cardiff at the St. Andrew’s Stadium (Birmingham) in the 45th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 1. Read our reasons for Birmingham vs Cardiff prediction and betting tips.
Birmingham were trailing heading into half-time against relegation-threatened Derby last weekend, but a second-half Lukas Jutkiewicz brace helped the Blues claim all three points. Birmingham have won four and drawn two of their last six league games under new boss Lee Bowyer which has secured a mid-table finish for the Blues and an 11th successive Championship season next term. On the other hand, Cardiff have experienced a sudden dip in form at the worst possible time, and as a result, the Welsh outfit have missed out on the Championship play-offs. After an impressive run of six league victories in a row previously, just three wins from their last 12 outings have followed (D6, L3).
After a promising start, Blues quickly fell away from the top half of the table before the Christmas period and endured a poor run of form which saw Aitor Karanka lose his job at St. Andrew’s. Birmingham won just one game during a 13-match period across the New Year, a run which saw them slip to 23rd position by mid-February. However, the decision to replace Karanka with former Blues midfielder Bowyer has paid dividends, with City sharply climbing the divisional standings since they opted for a managerial change on March 16th.
Former Charlton Athletic manager Bowyer has suffered just one defeat as Blues boss, winning five and drawing two of his other seven matches in the dugout. Birmingham are unbeaten in their last six matches and have recorded some vital wins, against the likes of Stoke, Rotherham, and Derby on their way up the table. Having suffered several heavy defeats earlier in the campaign, Bowyer has transformed Birmingham’s fortunes at the back; since taking charge, his side have conceded just six goals. However, the mid-table side has nothing to play for other than pride in the league anymore.
As for Cardiff, the Bluebirds missed their chance for the play-offs this season so close on the table. With the top six spots filled for this term, the Bluebirds will have nothing to look forward to in the game. The away team has been unbeaten for the last four clashes with three draws in it. They will visit on the back of a 2-1 win at home against the likes of Wycombe where they had star striker Kieffer Moore to thank last weekend after his brace helped cancel out Wycombe's penalty.
Mick McCarthy's men were in superb form from the start of February until the middle of March, taking 23 points from a possible 27 to climb into the playoff positions. However, maintaining that form was never likely to be possible, of course, and so it has proved with a run of just two wins in eleven prior to last week's visit of bottom side Wycombe Wanderers. That ended a winless run of five games for Cardiff and leaves them five points off Reading in seventh, which will now be the target for McCarthy.

Birmingham meet Cardiff having previously lost only one of their last 18 home league games against the Bluebirds (W9, D8), a 1-0 defeat on New Year’s Day in 2013. However, Cardiff are looking for their first league double over Birmingham since the 2012-13 season after celebrating a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture in December.
With the pressure off for both sides, this could be an entertaining contest in the West Midlands. Eighteen goals have been scored in the last four meetings between the sides, and we can see another high-scoring affair.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
