BIRMINGHAM VS DERBY MATCH ANALYSIS
Birmingham come into this game on the back of a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday. Aitor Karanka's side have claimed just one point from their last four league games, leaving the club in 17th position in the table with 23 points. As for their Tuesday’s opponents, the Rams ended their six-game unbeaten run (W2, D4) with Wayne Rooney solely in charge, after losing 1-0 to Preston at the Pride Park on Boxing Day.
Birmingham boss Aitor Karanka has been under pressure to play with more attacking intent with his team continuing to struggle for goals in the Championship. The Blues have recently won 0-1 at Bristol and 1-2 at Reading, but a four-match winless streak (D1, L3) has put the Spaniard in a position where he will still have doubts about the change in mentality. A goalless draw at Nottingham was a step in the right direction, but the West Midlands side remain just seven points above the relegation zone.
Aitor Karanka steered his side to a draw on a forgettable return to the City Ground. Forest had the better of the first half, but the Blues improved after the interval, playing with greater urgency. However, neither side were able to create many clear chances as Birmingham, who were thrashed 4-1 by Middlesbrough last time out, ensured they ended a three-game losing run to stay five points clear of their opponents.
The Rams, on the other hand, can take the positives from picking up 10 points from their last seven fixtures, but it has not been enough to keep the club outside of the relegation zone. Nevertheless, the last six games have shown that Rooney can cope with being an interim manager and a trip to Birmingham represents an opportunity to get back on track. Rooney will be aware of the ahead of the importance of the match ahead of their trip to Sheffield Wed next.
As for their Boxing Day match, an inspired display by Rams goalkeeper David Marshall looked to have earned the hosts a gutsy point after the 20th-minute sending-off of Martyn Waghorn, but Alan Browne scored a stunning 96th-minute winner as Preston finally broke the resilient 10-man Derby at Pride Park. It left the Rams squad deflated, and Rooney now face the challenge of picking up his men and bouncing back.

In 25 head-to-head encounters between the two sides, Derby hold a slight advantage with nine wins to Birmingham’s seven. The two clubs last faced each other in July this year, with Derby beating Birmingham 3-1.
Currently going through their second-worst Championship campaign of the last decade and failing to beat Derby at home in their last seven attempts (D3, L4), Aitor Karanka's side will rely on the likes of Scott Hogan and Lukas Jutkiewicz to score the goals, while Ivan Sanchez could prove to be crucial as well.
Derby’s mini resurgence, on the other hand, has taken the Rams painfully close to leaving the relegation zone. It’s been a tight run of matches for Derby, with their last seven fixtures all featuring under 2.5 goals
BettingKick’s Birmingham vs Derby Prediction is: Under 2.5 goals
