Blackburn host Derby at the Ewood Park (Blackburn) in the 42nd round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Friday, April 16. Read our reasons for Blackburn vs Derby prediction and betting tips.
Blackburn host Wayne Rooney's Derby this Friday as the Championship heads into its final rounds of matches. A 2-2 draw against Cardiff City has temporarily eased fears among the Rovers faithful over a possible relegation scrap. With five games remaining in the campaign, Blackburn have distanced themselves from the relegation waters. The same cannot be said about their opponents, who have now won just one of their past 10 games and currently find themselves 20th in the standings after a 1-0 home defeat to leaders Norwich.
As for their latest match against Cardiff, conceding Vaulks' opener injected life into Rovers, who were lacking in tempo and attacking purpose prior to that. Once the 'kings of the fast starts', Rovers have been anything but electrifying starters, reflective of their abysmal first-half record - just six goals in the opening period since the turn of the year. It's a hindrance that has contributed significantly to their recent woeful record of just one win in 15.
The words of Mowbray upon reflection of the result perhaps best summarised the frustrations of their campaign. It was the 24th fixture this season where Rovers had fallen a goal behind, from which they have won just one match - the home triumph over Rotherham in December - from going behind, drawing six and losing 17. Nevertheless, Derby are the visitors next, a side struggling for goals just as much as Rovers are - no better place to start amending this irritating theme of conceding first and surrendering your chances of success.
As for the Rams, the former Man United striker’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat over league leaders Norwich as they slip ever closer to the bottom three with Rotherham United having three games in hand on the Rams. Kieran Dowell’s classy free-kick left rookie boss Rooney’s Derby stuck in 20th place, four points above Rotherham, and with work still to do to guarantee their Championship status. Derby now have away games at Blackburn and Preston, but Rooney is confident his side is on the right track.
Wayne Rooney was pleased with the performance against the Canaries but thought his side had shown Norwich, who are 19 places and 47 points better off than the Rams, too much respect in the first 45 minutes. The Rams may have deserved at least a point at Pride Park but could take some encouragement from the performance for the rest of their campaign. The Rams will travel to Blackburn next Saturday but will be sweating on Thursday’s results from Rotherham who face Coventry.

Blackburn meet Derby having won their last three home league matches against the Rams, keeping a clean sheet in each win. The Rovers can also do a league double over Derby after celebrating a 4-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Moreover, Derby have lost five of their last seven league matches against Blackburn (W1, D1).
Despite managing just one win in their last 15 games (D5, L9), and being on a seven-game run without a victory, we still favour the hosts here to start producing the goods on a more regular basis. Also, Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has never lost a home league match against Derby in his managerial career.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
