For Blacburn Rover and Doncaster Rovers 2020/2021 season officially starts on Saturday, 29 August, when they play a Carabao Cup first round match at Ewood park in Blackburn. The match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
The first round was supposed to be played on 5 September during an international break. However, because of a number of Blackburn's players being called up to join their national teams, the match will take place one week earlier, on 29 august.
BLACKBURN VS DONCASTER MATCH ANALYSIS
Blackburn finished their season much later than Doncaster, as League One got cancelled almost two months earlier in June, but the fatigue factor should not be taken into account as they had enough time to rest, bolster their squad and get some practice games in their pre-season friendlies. They played two games away from home and won against Fleetwood Town (1-4) and Blackpool (1-3).
During pre-season, Tony Mowbray gave opportunities to the likes of Scott Wharton and other young players to impress and also provided some action time for the recovering Amari'i Bell,Derick Williams and Corry Evans. Adam Armstrong, their main man, who finished the campaign with 16 goals to his name, showed in pre-season that he'll be the main threat once again, while Ben Brereton also showed glimpses of brilliance in a friendly against Blackpool with his first-half brace.
For Doncaster Rovers, the season behind would best be described as a stop-start season, even before Covid-19, with a manager change and limited pre-season recruitment which made them play without a recognized striker until January. But Darren Moore has done a brilliant job. As I mentioned above, Blackpool had much more time for pre-seson practice and have played more games so far, so one might argue that fresher legs may be an advantage in this match.
They played three friendlies - against Scunthorpe United (2-3 win), Bradford City (3-4 win), and Derby County (0-0). Brad Halliday, who was maybe their most improved player last season, was particularly pleased with his team's defensive effort in a goalless draw against the Championship side. New signing Josef Bursik and Louis Jones both had quiet halves in the goal and the manager says it was down to team effort.

This game, coming sooner as it should, will be a good test for both teams before the normal duties resume. Blackburn, being the Championship side and playing at home, probably gets an upper hand in this fixture, but at this stage of the season, one can only speculate how both teams will perform. Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city.
