Blackburn host Huddersfield at the Ewood Park (Blackburn) in the 44th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, April 24. Read our reasons for Blackburn vs Huddersfield prediction and betting tips.
Tony Mowbray tenure is now pedalling into the irretrievable territory after the latest Blackburn Rovers setback. A 19th defeat of the campaign and two wins from seventeen, of which 10have been losses, paint a grim picture on the surface with just 11 points to show from a possible 51. Whichever angle you opt to take, that is a relegation form. As for Huddersfield, they are still not mathematically safe from relegation after a 1-0 home defeat to Barnsley. The Terriers are in greater danger of relegation, particularly if Rotherham win their games in hand, although they lead the 22nd-placed side by eight points ahead of this round. Like their hosts, they’re in poor form (W1, D3, L3) and their season can’t end quickly enough.
Another defeat without a goal saw Tony Mowbray lament his side’s poor decision-making, and execution, in the final third. Rovers passed up their best two opportunities, which fell to Sam Gallagher and John Buckley but struggled to break through the Owls’ backline. Again a side playing with a back three proved their undoing, Rovers restricted to just two attempts on target, despite seeing plenty of the ball. They had managed four goals in their previous two matches, but a shut-out against Wednesday was their 13th of the season, and eighth in their last 17 games.
Of the 19 defeats Rovers have now suffered, 15 have been by a one-goal margin, with nine of those coming by way of 1-0 losses. It’s been a common theme for Mowbray’s side, who have fallen behind in 26 of their 43 matches, and come back to win just two, and draw a further five. And remember, it was only several months ago that top six was the ambition – now the talk of the top six is laughable given Rovers' current predicament. While February's disastrous losing streak could be forgiven, Rovers don't appear to be learning from their mistakes which has contributed to their demise.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town's unsurprising performance in Barnsley loss spelled out the club's problems again. Daryl Dike's overhead kick gave playoff contenders Barnsley a deserved victory at the John Smith's Stadium that honestly should have been more like 0-3. Huddersfield have come to rely on opponents generously underperforming for them to get anything much out of their games recently, so it’s hardly surprising that when a team turned up as strongly as Barnsley did at the John Smith's Stadium, the Terriers were so easily brushed aside.
On the other hand, Huddersfield face Blackburn on Saturday afternoon knowing that victory at Ewood Park could all but secure their Championship status for another 12 months. Having failed to win successive games since December, Carlos Corberan will take the positives from only conceding one goal to the Tykes, but the result leaves his Terriers side with work to do if they wish to stay in this division. Realistically, success at Ewood Park should get the Terriers over the line.

Blackburn meet Huddersfield having drawn four of the last five league meetings with the Terriers at Ewood Park, with the Terriers winning the other 2-0 in April 2016. Interestingly, Huddersfield are looking to record their first-ever league double over Blackburn in the 41st season they have faced each other after celebrating a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture in December.
We do not expect the most entertaining of matches between these two clubs. A draw will arguably be acceptable by both teams, potentially leading to a low-scoring draw.
