Bologna is one of the teams that failed to capitalize on their performances and now they must cope with rising Atalanta.
Bologna has been in pretty bad shape in recent weeks. This team is currently in the 14th position on the table with 14 points won and they have not won in the previous 4 championship matches. In that period, they conceded as many as 11 goals, which ranks them among the worst defenses in the league and it is clear where the biggest problem of this team comes from.
Sinisa Mihajlovic used irony to comment on Bologna’s 1-1 draw against Torino: ‘We set a new record, failing to keep a clean sheet with no shots on target from the opposition.’ A howler from Angelo Da Costa broke the deadlock on Simone Verdi’s free-kick, but Roberto Soriano earned Bologna a point with Torino. The Granata had originally been given as an own goal for the comical Da Costa kick, but the Lega Serie A later assigned it to Verdi against his old club. Soriano is also a former Toro player and nutmegged Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to ensure a share of the spoils.
Bologna manager Sinisa Mihajlovic will be missing a few players for this game. Young Scottish left-back Aaron Hickey, Senegalese right-back Ibrahima Mbaye, Denmark international Andreas Skov Olsen, Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, and Paraguay international Federico Santander are all out. There are doubts over the availability of winger Riccardo Orsolini.
Bologna (4-3-3): Angelo Da Costa, Lorenzo De Silvestri, Danilo, Gary Medel, Mitchell Dijks, Jerdy Schouten, Andrea Poli, Roberto Soriano, Emanuel Vignato, Rodrigo Palacio, Simone Rabbi
Atalanta, despite the disturbed interpersonal relations between the coach and the team, managed to advance to the knock-out phase of the Champions League with a victory over Ajax. After that, they played great games against Fiorentina (3-0), Juventus (1-1), and Roma (4-1).
Gian Piero Gasperini hailed Josip Ilicic and Luis Muriel after Atalanta turned Roma over 4-1, but won’t discuss Papu Gomez. ‘When the President gets angry…’ Edin Dzeko had put Roma in front in the opening minutes, but Ilicic came off the bench at half-time to provide two assists for Robin Gosens and Duvan Zapata, then scored one himself late on after Muriel. Ilicic changed the game coming off the bench, but Gasperini insists Atalanta had already started pressing Roma for the equalizer before that. This was a commanding victory in the absence of Papu Gomez, who in agreement with the club was not even called up to the squad for this game.
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be unable to call upon the services of Croatia international Mario Pasalic and Italian center-back Mattia Caldara, who are both unavailable due to injuries.
Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Pierluigi Gollini, Rafael Toloi, Jose Luis Palomino, Berat Djimsiti, Hans Hateboer, Marten de Roon, Remo Freuler, Robin Gosens, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Matteo Pessina, Duvan Zapata

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
