Bologna and Cagliari are two very attack-minded teams who try to outscore the opposition and rarely keep a clean sheet and that could be the case on Saturday night at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have achieved the all-time Serie A record of 38 consecutive league matches conceding at least one goal and that is unlikely to end here, especially with Andrea Poli and Gary Medel injured. In the last round, Lazio secured a 2-1 victory against Bologna thanks to Luis Alberto’s solo strike and Ciro Immobile set up acrobatically by Mohamed Fares. The Rossoblu made the trip without Andrea Poli, Gary Medel, Andreas Skov-Olsen, and Mitchell Dijks.
The visitors started stronger and thought they had taken the lead on 13 minutes when Matias Svanberg swept his finish into the near bottom corner from the D. However, the referee disallowed the goal after viewing it again on the VAR monitor, as Jerdy Schouten had fouled Lucas Leiva in the build-up.
Luis Alberto finally broke the deadlock after half time with a fantastic solo effort. He caught Danilo in possession in midfield, nutmegged Svanberg, and blasted into the roof of the net. It also meant Bologna equaled the record for Europe’s top five leagues by conceding in 38 consecutive rounds, just like Duisburg in 1975.
Lazio doubled their lead with Immobile’s header from close range, but it was all about the assist. Verat Muriqi’s header on a Lazzari cross was going out of play until Mohamed Fares acrobatically hooked it back over his head from the by-line. Bologna did get one back in stoppages with Lorenzo De Silvestri, who grew up in the Lazio academy, sweeping home the Federico Santander assist.
The visitors wanted the equalizer and poured forward throughout the remaining minutes, creating several mad scrambles in the box and a penalty appeal for a slopy Marco Parolo clearance.
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Danilo, Tomiyasu, Hickey; Schouten, Svanberg; Orsolini, Soriano, Barrow; Palacio
Suspended: None
Injured: Dijks, Medel, Poli, Skov Olsen
The Sardinians are finding their feet under Eusebio Di Francesco, celebrating back-to-back victories over Torino and Crotone. Moving his traditional 4-3-3 to more of a versatile 4-2-3-1 formation has worked wonders, as Joao Pedro pulls the strings behind Cholito Simeone. Cagliari has earned six points from trailing situations this season, more than any other club.
It was a hugely entertaining early game on Sunday with five goals in the first half, when Cagliari hosted Crotone. Diego Godin shook off an injury to start, although Luca Ceppitelli and Filip Bradaric were still out of action. Alessio Cragno had an early save, using his legs to deny the Junior Messias angled drive at the near post, and that was an intro for a goal that arrived when Reca burst down the left to cross for Messias to fire in first time from 12 yards. Cagliari equalized four minutes later with a perfect left-footed free-kick by Charalampos Lykogiannis from 20 meters. The turnaround was complete after Godin and Joao Pedro started and action, that finished with a smart pass through the middle to send Giovanni Simeone one-on-one with Alex Cordaz, blasting into the net.
Crotone got their equalizer with a fantastic right-foot volley on the edge of the box from Molina, but the Sardinians went into the half-time break in front thanks to Riccardo Sottil’s header on a Gabriele Zappa cross from the by-line. Crotone went down to 10 men, as Luca Cigarini received his second yellow card.
Leonardo Pavoletti came off the bench and made an immediate impact, as his header from a corner was only parried into the path of Joao Pedro. It was initially disallowed for offside, but while Gabriele Zappa was off, the goalscorer was not. Cagliari had more chances to score, Pavoletti's header over and Cordaz palming a Marko Rog strike round the post.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Cragno; Zappa, Walukiewicz, Klavan, Lykogiannis; Marin, Rog; Nandez, Joao Pedro, Sottil; Simeone
Suspended: None
Injured: Pereiro, Pinna, Ceppitelli, Ciocci

Interestingly, goalkeepers Skorupski and Cragno have very good ratings in this season but Bologna and Cagliari have problems keeping the clean sheet. Both teams to score is more than reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
