Lazio needs to shake off the Champions League disappointment and get back on track in Serie A, but visit a Bologna side unbeaten in three. Read our reasons for Bologna vs Lazio prediction and betting tips.
Bologna is comfortably mid-table, let it wouldn’t take much for them to slide back into the danger zone. They are unbeaten in three, having crushed Parma 3-0, followed by 1-1 draws with Benevento and Sassuolo. Sinisa Mihajlovic ‘cannot understand’ the decision to send Aaron Hickey off after 17 minutes and Bologna has ‘regrets’ after the Sassuolo draw. It wasn’t a happy birthday for the Serbian tactician, because his team was down to 10 men for over 70 minutes. “What I feel most is anger. When it was 11 against 11, we were dominating. The red card changed everything, but we defended well and barely ran any risks,” the coach told the media. “I cannot understand how a referee can not even give a foul and then change it several minutes later to a red card. I don’t get it. We had a similar situation with Samir when we were against Udinese, his leg was straight and it wasn’t even a yellow card. Nobody had complained about the foul, it was all done by the VAR. I am just glad we proved that we were a team and fought to the end.”
Sassuolo managed to equalize with Francesco Caputo, who turned quickly after a ricochet fell into his path, but Bologna parked the bus. “We were down to 10 against Udinese for a long while and only conceded in stoppages there. What we need to improve when we’re down to 10, and I hope it doesn’t happen often, is to play more. We did well defending with 10 men and Sassuolo had a few shots from distance, the goal we conceded was a hopeful effort and a lucky ricochet, but we stayed very deep. The way we prepared the game and had started the match, we certainly would’ve done more without that red card. It leaves regrets, especially as last time against Sassuolo we were 3-1 up and lost 4-3. We could’ve had six points against them and got one. That’s football for you. It’s true our attitude against Benevento was lacking, so I showed the players a video today before the game telling them the difference between a good performance and a winning one was the mentality. It’s not physical, it’s not tactical or technical, it’s the mental attitude.”
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; Tomiyasu, Danilo, Soumaoro, Dijks; Schouten, Svanberg; Orsolini, Soriano, Sansone; Barrow

The Aquile were hammered 4-1 at home by Bayern Munich on Tuesday in a game where their limitations were laid bare, gifting three of the four goals with defensive howlers. Their focus has to be on finishing in the top four again and that is far from easy, with the top of the table getting more bunched together. Simone Inzaghi admitted Lazio was up against the Club World Cup winners and scored three out of four goals for them in a 4-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.
The Biancocelesti knew they needed the perfect performance against the reigning European and World Champions, but instead gifted three out of four goals, including the opener after nine minutes with a Mateo Musacchio back-pass. “Unfortunately, we’d said this week with the lads that we should play our game. We felt the occasion too much, we were tense against the world champions, but we prepared three of the four goals for them,” Inzaghi told media. “If the penalty had been given for 1-1, that might’ve changed the game, but none of it went our way tonight. We can learn from this experience and be stronger in the future. Disappointment in the locker room is natural, but it’s already an achievement for us to be here. In games at this level, you need to be at 100 percent do everything right, and hope the opponents aren’t at their best. We knew the kind of team we were facing. I think we’d started well before the error for the opening goal, and there should’ve been a penalty when it was still 1-0. If we look at it, we’re talking about the Club World Cup winners and we scored three out of four goals for them. You can’t make those mistakes at this level. Nonetheless, I think we had shots on goal too. Nobody is saying Bayern didn’t deserve to win, but it was already complicated anyway and then our errors made it even more of an uphill struggle.”
There were also errors going forward, as Lazio forwards were repeatedly caught offside or made the wrong choice. “We had the sensation that once we beat the initial press, we could hurt them. We scored a goal, created some more chances, we had practiced over the last day some situations that could develop. As I said, the Round of 16 was our target, we would’ve wanted to face Bayern with our full squad available. They too had injuries, but ours were more damaging in the grand scheme of things.”
Lazio (3-5-2): Reina; Patric, Acerbi, Musacchio; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Lulic; Correa, Immobile
Suspended: Escalante
Injured: Luiz Felipe, Radu

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
