It has been a rough week for Milan, but they remain top of the Serie A table and face yet more injury problems as they visit Bologna.
Sinisa Mihajlovic saw ‘the usual problem’ for Bologna against Juventus, as they were ‘lacking at the psychological level’ and their finishing. The Rossoblu had plenty of scoring opportunities in Turin but were beaten 2-0 by a deflected Arthur strike and Weston McKennie header on a corner. “We didn’t believe enough in the first half, as they were playing below par and we didn’t raise the tempo either,” Mihajlovic told media. “I think the equalizer was in the air, but then during our best moment, we conceded from a corner. Juve deserved it, we did well but were always lacking something to finish those chances. “It’s the usual problem, we get into the final third and then don’t make the right choice, the right pass, the right shot. It’s frustrating. At the same time, Wojciech Szczesny also made a few fantastic saves.”
The Rossoblu have a famously poor record against Milan, winning just one of their last 22 Serie A meetings and that was at San Siro in January 2016. The Diavolo are unbeaten at the Stadio Dall’Ara in 14 visits. Bologna’s only remaining absentee is Federico Santander, so Rodrigo Palacio is expected to return as the center-forward, supported by Riccardo Orsolini and Musa Barrow.

The Rossoneri lost 3-0 to Atalanta and then crashed out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final in a fiery defeat to rivals Inter, which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off. The Coppa is a separate tournament, so his ban does not apply in the league. There are other new problems for coach Stefano Pioli, as Simon Kjaer and Brahim Diaz picked up muscular injuries, so Fikayo Tomori is likely to get his first start.
Stefano Pioli insisted ‘the only difference’ between Milan and Inter in the Coppa Italia quarter-final was the Zlatan Ibrahimovic red card and he feels ‘positive about our future.’ Ibrahimovic had given the Rossoneri the lead, but after his dismissal for a second yellow card, Romelu Lukaku converted a penalty and Christian Eriksen completed the turnaround with a stoppage-time free-kick. “It’s disappointing that we went out because we cared about this competition,” Pioli told the media. “The performance shows we are a strong team who can hold out well, but going a man down made it much more difficult.”
The coach was asked if the row between Lukaku and Ibrahimovic before half-time influenced the rest of the game. “The situation was an influence, as the first yellow card then led to the second. They are two grown-ups, they said something to each other, I don’t know what. It happens, we have to look forward. What didn’t work was that down to 10 men, it was much more complicated, and we were naïve with the foul to give away the penalty. However, I leave this defeat feeling much more positive and confident about our future than I was after the Atalanta game.”
Milan (4-2-3-1): G Donnarumma; Calabria, Romagnoli, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Kessie, Meite; Castillejo, Rebic, Leao; Ibrahimovic

Injured: Kjaer, Gabbia, Bennacer, Brahim Diaz, Calhanoglu

It’s a special game for Sinisa Mihajlovic and Pioli, facing their former clubs. Milan can set a new club record by scoring in 20 consecutive Serie A away fixtures, as they currently equaled the tally of 19 achieved from March 1992-April 1993. Milan eased past several similar opponents in this season and despite Bologna showed improvement this should be an away win.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
