Napoli is looking to bounce back from the defeat to Sassuolo last week, but Bologna has gained confidence from back-to-back wins, and playing at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara is always a boost.
The hosts won 3-2 over Cagliari last time, following up a 2-0 win against Reggina in the Coppa Italia last week, and Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men could climb further up the table with a win against the Partenopei. Against Cagliari, it was a pleasure to watch the match, Joao Pedro and Giovanni Simeone had put the Sardinians in front with well-worked goals and Alessio Cragno performed several great saves to keep his men in front. However, Roberto Soriano and a powerful Musa Barrow brace turned the whole game on its head.
Bologna’s injury crisis continues to intensify, as Nicola Sansone and Ibrahima Mbaye are ruled out for three to four weeks. Andrea Poli, Mitchell Dijks, Gary Medel, Andreas Skov Olsen, and Federico Santander are still out of action. A statement released this evening confirmed Sansone has been diagnosed with a groin strain and is out for three to four weeks. Full-back Mbaye also suffered a lesion to the right flexor and is also going to be on the treatment table for three to four weeks.
The home side is expected to side the same XI on Sunday, except for Aaron Hickey, who could be replaced by Stefano Denswil at left-back. Bologna is 13th with six points from six games and are closer to the bottom three than the top 10 in Italy.
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Danilo, Tomiyasu, Denswil; Schouten, Svanberg; Orsolini, Soriano, Barrow; Palacio
Suspended: none
Injured: Dijks, Medel, Poli, Skov Olsen, Santander, Sansone, Mbaye
Napoli responded with a 2-1 win against HNK Rijeka in the Europa League, but the Azzurri rotated heavily and are expected to change back at the Renato Dall’Ara.
At the last weekend, Sassuolo surged into second place with their surprise 2-0 victory away to Napoli thanks to a Manuel Locatelli penalty and Maxime Lopez solo effort. It was a particularly surprising result, considering Domenico Berardi, Francesco Caputo, and Filip Djuricic didn’t make the trip to the Stadio San Paolo. Dries Mertens wasted a golden opportunity and Andrea Consigli made big saves, but Locatelli converted a penalty for Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s mistimed tackle on Giacomo Raspadori. There was controversy around the second goal, as while Victor Osimhen complained he’d been pulled back by Marlon, Sassuolo countered and Maxime Lopez scored his debut Serie A strike.
Tiemoue Bakayoko and Fabian Ruiz are expected to be back in the middle, with Lorenzo Insigne and Hirving Lozano in the attacking trident with Dries Mertens in the 4-2-3-1 formation. Victor Osimhen should be back in the starting line-up, as Andrea Petagna starred in Europe this week. Napoli currently sits fifth in a jammed Serie A table and a win could help them to top four should the other results go their way.
Napoli has scored in 14 consecutive games against Bologna and one more would equal their record in Serie A (15 straight games with a goal against Lazio).
Napoli (4-3-3): Ospina; Hysaj, Manolas, Koulibaly,
Mario Rui; Fabian Ruiz, Bakayoko; Lozano, Mertens, Insigne
Suspended: none
Injured: none

Gattuso was angry because of the two last performances and this could motivate or break his side completely. Bologna on their good day is capable to outscore any team and this should be an entertaining match with a lot of goals.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
