Bologna hosts Sampdoria in a mid-table clash on Sunday with both teams eager to play attractive football. Read our reasons for Bologna vs Sampdoria prediction and betting tips.
Sinisa Mihajlovic rued Bologna errors after a 3-1 defeat to Napoli, because ‘we played and they scored the goals.’ There was no shortage of scoring opportunities at both ends, but Lorenzo Insigne’s brace and a Victor Osimhen counter-attack made the difference. “Let’s just say that we played and they scored the goals. We scored two as well, but they were disallowed, and we hit the post. Unfortunately, football is decided by goals and they did better than us in that particular aspect, but with the performances, we deserved more,” the coach told the media. “We are in the middle, so we could’ve done better this season, but also worse, especially considering the injuries. We do what we can do. I cannot complain today, as the lads took the initiative, created chances and we conceded goals on individual errors, even from players who are quite experienced. That makes me angry. If we play like this, we have a good chance of winning in the future. I have always said our objective is safety. We have a squad with the quality to beat anyone when we have the right mentality and focus. When we lack that attitude, we can lose to anyone. We are a team that creates many chances but don’t score enough of them. That’s been the case since the start of the season.”
Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten is back from suspension and is expected to start ahead of Nicolas Dominguez. Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf), Paolo Farago (thigh) and Aaron Hickey (shoulder) are all closing in on a return but are not expected to feature on Sunday.

Claudio Ranieri said he’s ‘calm’ despite Sampdoria going a month without a win, but stressed the Blucerchiati need ‘a good match’ against Bologna. The last win came on February 14 against Fiorentina, as back-to-back defeats against Lazio and Atalanta followed. Sampdoria, who prepare to face Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men on Sunday, arrive from consecutive draws against Genoa and Cagliari and Ranieri was asked if he was worried about the lack of three-pointers over the last month. “It’s true,” Ranieri said at a press conference. “However, the performances leave me sufficiently calm because I want the best and always more. “We have prepared well; we know what awaits us. Bologna is a team that has players up front who can create. They rotate and bring many players in attack. We have to play a really good match.”
For Sampdoria, defender Omar Colley is suspended and could be replaced by Lorenzo Tonelli, while forward Ernesto Torregrossa remains unavailable as he is nursing a calf injury. Experienced striker and top goalscorer Fabio Quagliarella is set to lead the line once again and could be partnered by Manolo Gabbiadini, who scored in the 2-2 draw with Cagliari last weekend and has scored more Serie A goals against Bologna than any other opponent (six).
Sampdoria: Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Tonelli, Augello; Candreva, Thorsby, Ekdal, Jankto; Gabbiadini, Quagliarella

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
