Bologna will try to stop excellent Sassuolo at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Sunday.
Bologna has something to prove after an inconsistent start, as Sassuolo arrives on a high ahead of this historically unpredictable clash in Serie A on Sunday. Bologna approaches the game with only one win in three games, but it came at home turf and could be further spurred by the fact that Sassuolo has conceded at least one goal in their nine last away games. Bologna is struggling to keep a clean sheet too and is only two games from equalling the worst record from the top five European Leagues, as MSV Duisburg conceded goals in 38 consecutive games in 1975.
The side coached by Siniša Mihajlović lost in the last round, the visitors missed Andrea Poli, Mitchell Dijks, and were confident after crushing Parma 4-1. Both teams had decent chances but Gianluca Lapadula after the corner got in front of Aaron Hickey to volley in from six yards. Bologna had the ball in the net just three minutes later when a corner bounced off Bryan Dabo and into the path of Mattias Svanberg to fire in from five yards. However, it was disallowed using VAR for a Lorenzo De Silvestri handball. Bologna pushed to the very end, but a Benevento goalkeeper Montipò had a great game and kept out Nicola Sansone’s strike from the edge of the box too and, when he was beaten, Barrow turned over the bar.
Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Danilo, Tomiyasu, Hickey; Svanberg, Schouten; Orsolini, Soriano, Sansone; Barrow
Suspended: None
Injured: Djiks, Medel, Pioli, Skov Olsen
Sassuolo is unbeaten in three games and arrives in Bologna after back-to-back 4-1 wins, against Spezia and Crotone. But the guests, who could have Jeremie Boga back in the squad, must do without COVID-positive Jeremy Toljan and are facing a tricky opponent at the Renato Dall’Ara, where they won 2-1 in July.
Sassuolo were clinical in attack, the complete opposite of a Crotone side who failed to take their chances, and emerged with a 4-1 victory in the last round. They were still missing Jeremie Boga, Marlon, Francesco Magnanelli, Rogerio, and Filippo Romagna, but managed to broke the deadlock with a bit of luck. Berardi’s shot from the edge of the box has taken a deflection off Defrel to wrong-foot Alex Cordaz. Crotone got the equalizer they deserved thanks to a penalty, as Medhi Bourabia kicked Cigarini. Pacey Simy converted into the near bottom corner. Sassuolo also received a spot-kick using VAR, as Pereira had his hand up when charging down the cross from Berardi. Cordaz guessed the right side, but couldn’t get his fingertips to the Caputo penalty into the bottom corner. Sassuolo were clinical on the counter-attack to go 3-1 up. Berardi’s inspired slide-rule pass was laid for Caputo to sprint forward, send Cordaz to the ground and dink it over him into the empty net. Crotone’s defensive woes made it an even heavier result in stoppages, as Marrone and Magallan got into a muddle, effectively setting the ball up for Locatelli to blast in from 14 yards.
Sassuolo (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Muldur, Peluso, Ferrari, Kyriakopulos; Obiang, Locatelli; Berardi, Djuricic, Defrel; Caputo
Suspended: None
Injured: Rogerio, Toljan, Romagna, Schiappacasse, Magnanelli, Ayhan

Sassuolo is in the form team at the moment and their
front line is very creative and inspired. Bologna is a good home team but
Sassuolo could win against anyone at the moment. Away win has great value. Also, both teams to score seems like a reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
