FC Girondins de Bordeaux will meet OGC Nice Côte d'Azur at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique on Sunday in the Ligue 1.
When playing at home, FC Girondins Bordeaux has not conceded a goal so far this season and that could be their main foundation for the new season. Les Girondins aim to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Lens, with the team eyeing their first home win of the season. Five points after four games are not enough for their coach Jean-Louis Gasset to be calm before the match against Nice. The Bordeaux coach hopes to see his group bounce back after the tough loss. He hoper that a spirit of revenge can overtake the current state of mind and provoke players to show their character. He explained that the workload before the Lens game was maybe too much for the players at that moment so they looked a little tired. For that they switched the training sessions on duels, aggressiveness, to find a better way to prepare for the next match.
The Bordeaux is still very involved in the transfer market but the recruitment problem is well known: they must sell before possibly buy or loan any player. The possible departure of former Girondin Jules Koundé for Manchester City could bring 9 million euros due to the percentages of the previous agreement. Pending the outcome of this case, the club must try to offload several players, Mexer, Jovanovic, and Alexandre Mendy. Croatian midfielder Toma Basic is the target of several Italian clubs but he is currently injured and that doesn’t help. Hatem Ben Arfa is free and could help with flair and creativity but the former Rennais playmaker wants to hear the other options.
The disciplinary committee suspended Paul Baysse for the next match after he was given a red card against RC Lens last Saturday. He will therefore not be in the group to face his former club, while midfielder Toma Basic is injured ahead of the next game.
Nice is currently 10th in the standings. Patrick Vieira's men had started the season well with two straight wins. A first against RC Lens at home thanks to a double from the former Lyonnais Amine Gouri [2-1]. Then a second away on the Strasbourg pitch thanks to a double from Kasper Dolberg [0-2]. Their last two matches have been more complicated. In the third round, they went to Montpellier and lost 36-1 comfortably, and against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend, they could not keep the pace with league champions. Di Maria was on fire, and the capital club won 0-3.
It is necessary to watch their attackers Amine Gouiri and Kasper Dolberg who have already scored a double each but their defense is the key for their eventual success because they have already conceded 7 goals in 4 matches. Nice are eager to put an end to their three-game winless run in Ligue 1, and seeing that the hosts head into Sunday’s football match with a severely-weakened squad, they could be very vulnerable in the next game. The likes of Dolberg, Nsoki, and Claude Maurice were quarantined for the PSG game, and the trio is rated doubtful for the Bordeaux clash.

Both teams are eager to play more defensively and to keep a clean sheet so under 2,5 goals is a reasonable bet regarding their playing styles and current struggles.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
