Bournemouth host Brentford at the Vitality Stadium (Bournemouth) in the first leg of the Championship Play-Off Semi-Final and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Monday, May 17. Read our reasons for Bournemouth vs Brentford prediction and betting tips.
Following the end of the Championship season over the weekend, our attention turns to arguably the biggest spectacle in the Football League: the Championship Promotion Play-Offs. Brentford and its electric attack, led by record scorer Ivan Toney, will be the favorites to win it, but considering that only one of the last five third-place finishers have won promotion through the playoff route, plus the fact that Brentford has not won any of the nine promotion play-offs it has been a part of, the gap between the rest of the field is considerably closer than it seems. Bournemouth has plenty of Premier League quality in its squad, and despite losing its last three matches, the Cherries have proven they are more than capable of earning promotion.
A really poor end to the season could be costly for Bournemouth who ended up finishing 6th in the and now have to face the favourites to come through the Semi-Final. For some time it looked like the Cherries might miss out on the top-six, but they turned their form around in March and April to give themselves a chance of an immediate return to the Premier League. There is still a lot of experience in the squad, and Jonathan Woodgate has had the last few days to work with his players to restore some of the lost confidence.
They were beaten in their last two Championship games at the Vitality Stadium against Brentford and Stoke and the first of those defeats gives their opponents the mental edge. However, Bournemouth has a strong squad with a balance of young talent and experienced Premier League veterans, and the team's composure has helped it weather a bumpy mid-season stretch stay in a playoff spot for almost the entire campaign. Brentford will be the favorite, but don't discount the Cherries.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Fulham have been relegated from the Premier League having beaten Brentford in the Play-Off Final last season. At the time there would have been a real disappointment in the Brentford camp, but the squad might have learned a valuable lesson and it may prepare them better than it did Fulham for Premier League. That experience may help Brentford, but Thomas Franks is under pressure to deliver top-flight football to a club with a brand new stadium to sell out going forward.
They did finish 3rd in the Championship table, and only Norwich won more away games than the Bees. They did, however, produced too many draws a few weeks ago and that run ended up costing them any hope of finishing in the automatic promotion positions. Nevertheless, they finished the campaign with 4 wins in a row and conceded a single goal in that run. Brentford are unbeaten in 6 away games in the league and have won 4 of those, including the last 3 in a row. Will the Bees' talent finally pull through?

Bournemouth meet Brentford after losing both of their league matches against the Bees this season, with Brentford one of only two teams to complete the league double over the Cherries in 2020/21 – a little over three weeks ago, ten-man Brentford deservedly won 0-1 at the Vitality Stadium.
Brentford can't really afford another season at this level with key players likely looking to move on without Premier League Football, but they are experienced and that gives them a chance. Nothing comes easy in the Play-Offs, but the visitors can be backed to earn an advantage to take back to West London.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
