Bournemouth host Southampton at the Vitality Stadium (Bournemouth) in the FA Cup Quarter-finals and the match kicks off at 12.15 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 20. Read our reasons for Bournemouth vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
Southampton travel to Championship side Bournemouth on Saturday with both teams looking for a win that would send them to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final. Although outsiders here, Jonathan Woodgate’s side have enjoyed their cup campaign this term and enter this tie after a comfortable 2-0 win at Burnley in the last 16. They head into this match in fine form, on the back of a 3-0 league win over Swansea on March 16 and just one loss in five Championship fixtures (W3, D1). On the other hand, the visitors were deserved 2-0 winners against Wolves in the previous round at Molineux as they look to lift the trophy for the first time since 1976. A disappointing campaign could be brightened by a trip to Wembley and we expect Hasenhuttl to take the match at the Vitality Stadium seriously.
After being relegated from the Premier League, losing several key players and parting company with manager Eddie Howe, 2020-21 was expected to be a difficult campaign for Bournemouth. There are plenty of concerns about a team now managed by Jonathan Woodgate following the sacking of Jason Tindall last month. However, the Cherries have plenty of attacking talent in this squad though, as shown by a 2-0 win at Burnley in the fifth round.
They have reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1956-57 and are firmly in the race for a play-off spot and a potential return to the top flight, which is still in the balance after a poor run of form since Christmas. The Cherries have since suffered eight defeats and managed just six wins to effectively scupper their hopes of automatic promotion. An impressive 3-0 win against Swansea on Tuesday night may boost their hopes of a place at Wembley, but we’re wary of reading too much into that.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton was a major disappointment for the Saints, but their best performances in the past couple of months have been in the FA Cup, with a 1-0 win at home to Arsenal in the fourth round followed by a 2-0 victory at Wolves. Ralph Hasenhuttl seems unlikely to make too many team changes at this stage of the competition, especially with the international break meaning they are not back in action until April 4.
Southampton have endured two seasons in one, enjoying huge success in the first half before falling away early in 2021. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men briefly topped the Premier League at the end of 2020 but after a run of one win in 12 league matches, they have slipped so far as to become possible relegation candidates. The FA Cup has offered some solace and they will be hoping to use the resumption of the competition to get a morale-boosting victory this weekend.

Bournemouth meet Southampton having previously won their only FA Cup tie against the Saints, winning 3-1 in a first-round all the way back in 1953-54. However, Southampton are unbeaten in their last four away games against the Vitality Stadium in all competitions (W2, D2), since a Premier League loss in March 2016.
Southampton have a welcome distraction from their poor league form when they face south coast neighbours Bournemouth on Saturday. Saints have lost 10 of their last 12 league games but should still have too much quality for a Bournemouth team sitting outside the play-off places in the Championship.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
