BRENTFORD VS BOURNEMOUTH MATCH ANALYSIS
Brentford host Bournemouth in the league on Wednesday night, in a clash between two promotion candidates. The Bees and the Cherries are level on points at the moment (38) in 3rd and 4th respectively, albeit Bournemouth have a game in hand. Brentford played out an entertaining game against Cardiff on Boxing Day, where, in a topsy-turvy affair, a Sergi Canos hat-trick eventually gave the Bees a 3-2 win. On the other hand, Jason Tindall's team have had a week’s rest to bounce back from their disappointing goalless draw against Luton at the Kenilworth Road after their Milwall match was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak.
After Brentford created a new chapter in the club's 131-year history by beating Newcastle to reach a major semi-final for the first time in the Carabao Cup last Tuesday, they are back in the Championship action, three points off the automatic promotion places, and are shaping up once more as serious promotion candidates. The Bees have not lost since October, with their unbeaten run currently standing at 14 (W7, D7) games in the league – the longest of any team in England's top four divisions.
On Boxing Day, Brentford continued their superb recent form as Sergi Canos' second-half hat-trick saw them come from behind to win. Will Vaulks put Cardiff in front with a stunning lob from inside his own half., but the Bees leveled when Canos produced a wonder strike of his own. He then Canos put Brentford ahead before Vaulks' second gave Cardiff late hope. Moreover, the Bees made seven changes from the side who beat Newcastle with boss Thomas Frank able to rotate his ranks in a busy festive period.
As for Bournemouth, they are one of just two teams, along with Blackburn, to have scored more goals than Brentford this season, with the Cherries' tally standing at 35 compared to the Bees' 34. Jason Tindall's side has also kept clean sheets in their last five matches. The South Coast side has lost the fewest games in the Championship (2), but have only won 3 of their 10 away games so far and drew 0-0 with Luton Town in their last match on the road.
In that game, Cherries had the edge in possession and twice as many attempts as Luton but created few clear openings. However, Jason Tindall was happy with the outcome as his side didn’t concede once more and also because it was a tough final game in a difficult block of fixtures. This was their third 0-0 away game, which shows that they are doing a fine job of their defensive duties, as well.

This is the first league meeting between Brentford and Bournemouth since February 2015, with the Bees winning 3-1 at Griffin Park. Historically, Brentford have won 41 out of 110 previous games against Bournemouth to Cherries’ 38. Bournemouth are also winless in their last six away league games against Brentford (D4 L2).
After his hat-trick against the Bluebirds, Thomas Frank will probably stick with Sergi Canos for a fourth successive league game for the first time since the start of October. On the other hand, Bournemouth's extended rest has allowed Chris Mepham and Arnaut Danjuma to come back into contention following recent injuries.
