Brentford
Swansea
3 - 1
The game kicks off at 7:45pm (UK) on Wednesday 29 July, when Brentford host Swansea at the Griffin Park in London.
Brentford may point out at the lack of VAR technology in the Championship, but they've got only themselves to blame for the defeat. They were a better side in the first forty-five minutes, but were caught a little off-guard when Ayew scored after a terrific passage of play. Brenford's misery compounded when Rico Henry saw a straight red, after a lunging challenge on Connor Roberts on sixty-five minutes. They kept their net until the final whistle, but posed very little threat, as Swansea were fully in control in the second-half.
Swansea will head for London with a 1-0 lead in the bag from the first leg of the play-off semi-final against Brentford. After failing to get his team in front from the penalty spot, Ayew followed with a thumping left-foot strike to score, what turned out to be a winner. The Swans didn't lack commitment and ambition, and were very solid and organized .Defensively, they contained Brentford's dangerous attack, and, even though they could have scored more, did a fine job in the opposite half.
BRENTFORD VS SWANSEA MATCH ANALYSIS
Before the play-off, Brentford missed two great opportunities to secure the second place as they lost to two relegation candidates, Stoke City and Barnsley. The Bees have been in supreme form after restart to find themselves in the contention for the automatic promotion, but after eight successive victories, Thomas Frank's men have now suffered a third consecutive defeat.
The more worrying piece of statistics is that all those defeats were by a single-goal margin and it, maybe, emphasizes Brentford's inability to turn things around, both on the pitch and in the preparation for the games. The Championship's most prolific attack didn't have the best day in the office, and after the missed opportunities that came anyway, the Bees spent the best part of the second-half on the back foot.
The Swans, are on the better end of the same streak, with three successive victories. Looking at the bigger picture, they have took 17 points from their last nine games to get into play-off spots for the first time since New Year, and Steve Cooper will definitely persist with his 3-4-1-2 that has suited them so well so far.
Right back Kyle Naughton has served his suspension, but he will unlikely replace Connor Roberts as the boss won't probably temper with the starting eleven. Swansea's away form since the beginning of February is impressive, as they have lost only once since then (W3,D5,L1). There have been more than 2.5 goals in five of their last six away games, and we're yet to see if they can weather the storm when they visit London.

Brentford beat Swansea without breaking a sweat in both league games this season, and it might have been the case in the first leg as well, had it not been for the red card. Now, Thomas Frank must ask his players to clear their minds and focus on the second leg to reach the final, but Swansea will do everything in their power to protect the lead and book a ticket to Wembley too. The game definitely won't lack intensity and excitement.
