Brentford host Swansea at the Wembley Stadium (London) in the Championship Promotion Play-Off Final and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 29. Read our reasons for Brentford vs Swansea prediction and betting tips.
After suffering a ninth failed play-off appearance in the EFL only last year, Brentford are just one win away from becoming the 50th different club to play in the Premier League. Ahead of their second-ever play-off final at this level, a game often described as the world’s most valuable game, they are the form side having lost just one of their last 14 games (W7, D6, L1). Meanwhile, despite striking first in both semi-final legs against Barnsley, Swansea are deserving outsiders on paper. They finished seven points below Brentford in the regular Championship season, and with four of the last six second-tier playoff finals favoring the higher finishers, the Swans already appear to face an uphill battle. Regardless, their plucky nature is reflected by a positive Championship record as underdogs this term (W5, D5, L4).
Brentford finished as best of the rest in the Championship, ending in third place just four points behind Watford. It was a similar story to last season when they also narrowly missed out on automatic promotion, falling apart in the latter stages of the campaign. Will they improve on that and learn from their mistakes? The London club finished the season with four wins in their last four games and beat Bournemouth 3-2 on aggregate to reach the finals but needed a stunning 3-1 home victory to get over the line.
When Brentford lost the first leg of their semi-final to the Cherries and then fell a goal behind early in the second, it looked as if accusations of choking would be thrown at Thomas Frank’s men again. However, an Ivan Toney penalty got them back in the game quickly and further goals from Vitaly Janelt and Marcus Forss meant they were able to book their Wembley slot. Both meetings between the two this season have been 1-1 draws, but with Brentford having scored 23 goals more in the regular season, it would be a shock if they do not do the business.
As for Swansea, they went agonisingly close to coming through the play-offs last season, and that hurt will be the driving force behind the team in Saturday’s final at Wembley Stadium. They finished the season in fourth place with 80 points on the board, seven fewer than their opponents, and 11 off Watford in the automatic promotion places. The Swans won only one of their last five league games, but that counts for nothing in this match. This is a clean slate for both teams where their form over the season can be forgotten about.
Swans came through a tough semi-final against Barnsley, hanging on for dear life at the end of the second leg, where a 1-1 draw earned them a 2-1 victory overall. Six wins from their last 16 games saw Swansea have to settle for the play-offs, rather than challenge for the top two, as had been looking like the case for the first half of the season, but in winning their semi-final they know they are back on the right track. If Swansea are to make the promised land, they will not only have to keep Brentford’s rampant forward line quiet but also find a way to score themselves.

Brentford meet Swansea in the second consecutive season in the Championship play-offs, with the London side eliminating the Swans 3-2 on aggregate in last season’s semi-final. This year, both league meetings between Brentford and Swansea ended 1-1, with the Bees taking the lead in both games. The Swans were the only side the Bees dropped as many as four points from winning positions against in the regular league campaign. Both missed out on promotion through the playoffs last season, but one of the teams will gain their spot this time.
We favour the Bees so the BettingKick’s Brentford vs Swansea prediction is: Brentford win
