Marseille will start their season vs Brest on Sunday as guests at the Stade Francis-Le Ble.
Brest played their season opener last weekend but conceded four goals against Nimes in the devasted loss that showed how cruel life can be in on the highest level of French football. Brest is a team expected to fight to avoid relegation but such a loss could be a big blow for confidence too early in the season.
Brest was only promoted to Ligue 1 last season and they must gain as many points as early as possible and the first game hasn't done them favour. Brest’s defense was more than bad against Nimes in the first round and we are talking about the team that lost crucial striker from last season and had trouble scoring goals. Brendan Chardonnet from the visiting team was sent off in the second half and that didn't help but before that Brest conceded three of the final four goals in their net.
If we match attacking options from Nimes and Marseille Brest could certainly be in real trouble if they continue to play on the same level as on matchday 1. Brest manager Olivier Dall'Oglio has several players currently on his unavailable list. Chardonnet is suspended and Charbonnier and key defender Denys Bain are out from the next game. Lasne and Perraud are also injured.
Marseille was great last season under ex Porto and Chelsea manager under manager Andre Villas-Boas who tries to make new good chapters in European football after a short spell in China. They were second with 12 points behind the PSG team that won all the trophies in France and played in the UCL final.
After having their Ligue 1 start postponed vs Saint-Etienne due to several positive tests on coronavirus they are eager to show their worth and prepare for this year's involvement in the Group stage of UCL. The pressure is always high at the Stade Velodrome with their vocal fans and club with European pedigree and Cup of the Champions in their trophy room. They had trouble preparing for the new season because of the coronavirus, full-back Jordan Amavi was the first to test positive and more staff and players were involved so the game was postponed.
Marseille didn't play any games in August so it will be interesting to see are they rusty after a long pause. Non-activity on the pitch they replaced with lively transfer window where they signed Alvaro Gonzalez from Villarreal, Leonardo Balerdi from Borussia Dortmund, and Pape Gueye from Watford. They are trying to sign one more striker because Mitroglu went on loan to PSV. The best thing for Marseille is that most of the group from the last season remained in the club so they don't need time to gel and adjust to coach demands.
There is a long season ahead of them and playing in four competitions so Villas-Boas will be pleased not to have injured players but they will be tested on coronavirus once more before the match.

Brest is the biggest favorite for relegation and they didn't convince anyone in the first game that something will change in the next games. Players like Payet and fresh Thauvin who returned after an injury can cause havoc in the Brest penalty box and they are very likely to score in this match. Away win is the preferable bet for this encounter.
So, my Brest vs Marseille Prediction is Marseille to win

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
