BRIGHTON VS ASTON VILLA MATCH ANALYSIS
The Seagulls are now unbeaten in their last five top-flight matches - winning three and drawing two, with four clean sheets to boot. Their survival bid is gathering pace, and their results are starting to reflect the nature of their performances as they sit 10 points clear of the drop zone in 15th. On the other hand, Aston Villa come into this game on the back of six matches that have seen results switching between defeats and wins (W3, L3). The latest of those was a 1-0 home win against Arsenal (1-0), also at home. The Villans have three wins in eight in all competitions (D1, L4), but with two games in hand, while being in 9th place, they are still on course to get into the mix for one of the European berths.
A winless December may have had Brighton boss Potter looking over his shoulder, but four wins in their past six games in all competitions (D1) - including four clean sheets - suggests the Seagulls are well on their way to find the form they need to pull away from the bottom. Brighton boss Graham Potter said the Seagulls have been producing their best performances for two years as they beat Tottenham and Liverpool at Anfield, among others.
However, the Seagulls were dealt a late blow against the Foxes in midweek, as they come into this weekend in the PL on the back of a Round 5 FA Cup exit on Wednesday night at the King Power Stadium. With both sides making seven changes for the tie, the first half was a slow burner and neither team were able to register a single shot on target. Not until substitute Iheanacho nodded in a 94th-minute winner to settle an otherwise unremarkable contest and send Leicester to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The visitors, on the other hand, were without a win in 2021 (L2) prior to the Newcastle match on January 23. That’s after registering 11 points in the PL during December - their most in a single month since April 2010. They have now recorded 35 points after 21 games and nearly doubled on what they managed after 20 rounds during 2019/20. This is Smith's side best points tally at the halfway stage of a Premier League campaign since 2009-10, when they finished sixth, and have now won more games in the competition in half a season than they did in the whole of the last one (11).
Last Saturday, they completed a first top-flight double over Arsenal for 28 years. Villa climbed above Tottenham and closed to within three points of the fifth spot through Watkins' 10th Premier League goal since joining from Brentford for a club-record £28m in September. Ollie Watkins is in a rich vein of form and improving by the game, but perhaps the 25-year-old’s most impressive feature is the way he leads the line.

Brighton are looking to complete a league double over Aston Villa for the first time in what is their 11th season facing the Villans as they won 2-1 at the Villa Park in the reverse fixture on November 24. On the other hand, Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four away league matches against Brighton (W1 D3), a run that starts all the way back in 1980.
Moreover, the Seagulls haven’t won consecutive home games since November 2019, but are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games (W3 D2), with only Manchester City on a longer current run without defeat in the competition (14). Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s 11 Premier League wins this season is their most in a single top-flight campaign since 2010/11 (12), while their six away wins are their most in the Premier League since 2009/10 (9).

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
