BRIGHTON VS BURNLEY MATCH ANALYSIS
Brighton will be hoping to bounce back from a defeat to Spurs last weekend when they host Burnley on match-day 8 of the Premier League campaign. The Seagulls want to put an end to their five-game winless run (D2-L3) in the top division. Brighton are only four points clear of the relegation zone in 16th with 5 points and they will go all guns blazing at Burnley on Friday.
The Clarets, on the other hand, made a slow start to the season, with the team collecting only 1 point from possible 18. They are bottom of the table after their 5th defeat in 6 games (D1-L5), albeit with a game in hand. Burnley desperately need points against Brighton to kick-start their season as the club is going through the motions on all levels.
Brighton were always going to struggle this season. Apart from Maupay, their new young full-back Lamptey and centre-back Ben White, who have been stand-out performers so far, there are not too many positives for Graham Potter. Four defeats, two draws, and a solitary win, mean that Brighton have picked-up just 5 points from first seven games.
Against Tottenham last week, Brighton played without a recognized striker, with leading scorer Neal Maupay left out of the team. But Graham Potter's side played some good football and in Lamptey, who scored his first career goal, they have one of the most exceptional young talents in the top-flight. Despite enjoying more possession than Spurs and putting in some fine performances, the Seagulls are just not winning enough games.
As for Burnley, Sean Dyche has rightly been praised for his leadership with a modestly assembled Clarets squad - having provided a second top-10 finish in five Premier League seasons in 2019/2020. But an already thin squad is at its limits. Furthermore, they have been very unfortunate with injuries and they still have many important players missing.Dyche had done wonders with the Clarets' modest squad before, so let's not write them off already.
The Lancashire side were unlucky in their loss to Tottenham last week and should have come away with all three points in the fixture before at West Brom. But against an in-form Chelsea side they looked toothless and suffered their heaviest home Premier League defeat (0-3) since December 2019 (1-4 to City).
