Brighton host Chelsea in a season opener at Amex Stadium (Brighton) on Monday, 14 September and the match kicks off at 8.15pm (UK).
Chris Houghton was released after five years in charge, as the club wanted a change of style and a chance to become an established Premier League side. Graham Potter was brought in and the first transitional year with him at the helm Brighton finished the campaign in the 15th place, safe enough, but not without few scares. First game against Chelsea will be a sign if they have grown more tactically astute, especially against top -half teams.
Chelsea have progressed a lot under Frank Lampard, but it is unlikely they will be solid enough defensively to be taken into consideration as title challengers this season. They will probably blow hot and cold again as inconsistency remains an issue, which shouldn't be too surprising as Frank Lampard is still a young manager who is gaining more top experience as we speak. However, if he deals with the erratic nature of his team, the success might come earlier than expected.
BRIGHTON VS CHELSEA MATCH ANALYSIS
One of the Seagulls' biggest strengths is excellent club's set-up.They've built a fantastic stadium with cutting edge training ground and the role of a technical director was given to Dan Ashworth who held the same position in the national team set-up.He was the one responsible for the shrewd signings of Lallana from Liverpool and young left-back Tariq Lamptey from Chelsea.
Lallana's linking play will enable Maupay to stay a little higher up the pitch, which will help him flourish even more. Also, if Brighton turn some of the fourteen draws from last campaign into wins, then they can count on finishing higher than last year's fifteenth place. Another thing to better is their poor goal return, which might improve if Potter tweaks his team's shape a little to allow Maupay to partner with another striker.
With Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva and more Chelsea have had much fun in this transfer window. They have spent big and in positions that really needed an upgrade. Up front, Chelsea created a lot of opportunities, but a lack of clinical finishing often cost them points in games that really should have been won. However, one thing they haven't addressed yet is the goalkeeper issue, which may hold them back this season.
The completely revamped squad will need time to settle and defensive issues might raise up their ugly head again. The pressure will definitely be there to deliver this season, even though the reports suggest Roman Abramovich will show patience with Lampard. That being said, without a challenge for the top two places, some silverware or going all the way in the Champions League, Lampard will certainly be on a thin ice.

Worryingly for the Seagulls, they didn't score in seven home games last season, less than any other Premier League team, and against the top-five teams they are without a win in eight home matches. However, one of the few such matches they manage to find the back of the net was in their last head-to-head match against their Monday's rivals. Chelsea, on the other hand were really poor defending set-pieces and corners, from which they shipped more goals than any other team bar Norwich.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
