BRIGHTON VS FULHAM MATCH ANALYSIS
Brighton come into this match after back-to-back wins against Leeds at the Elland Road and Blackpool in the FA Cup. The first win meant that the Seagulls ended their nine-game run without a 1-0 win in the league (D5, L4) and the second one meant a place in the FA Cup last 16. The Seagulls are five points above the bottom-three in the league and their recent performances suggest they are out of a slump. As for Fulham, the Cottagers have really turned a corner under Scott Parker and are playing far better football than their current league position (18th) suggests. They drew five of their last six PL matches prior to this game (L1) but will hope to upset the in-form hosts and fellow relegation candidates, Brighton, on Wednesday.
Brighton secured the vital three PL points at Leeds (1-0) which have opened up a five-point gap from the bottom three as we reach the halfway mark of the campaign. There is another important league match against Fulham coming up during the week for them and the boss Graham Potter is expected to field a strong team, following their 2-1 win against League One outfit Blackpool in the FA Cup, which ended their nine-game run without a win at the AMEX.
The Seagulls reached the FA Cup Quarter Final in 2018 and the Semi-Final in 2019, so they might be keen on progressing all the way this time around, even though securing the top-flight survival remains a priority. The win at Elland Road ended their ten-game run without a win in all competitions since November 21 against Villa in the league. Head coach Graham Potter was optimistic in the aftermath, saying that his side have to take on the challenge and be brave after boosting their survival hopes with a deserved win at Leeds.
Fulham entered 2021 in the bottom three regardless of their slightly improved but still disappointing December form (D4, L1). The last season's play-off winners in the Championship have been exposed for all their shortcomings and weaknesses so far in the league, but have significantly raised their game in the festive period and the new calendar year. Scott Parker's side seem improved, especially at the back, but they still find it hard to win games - which is why they are still in the bottom three.
Against Man Utd, on a freezing Wednesday night in west London, Man United came from behind to claim a fiercely fought 2-1 win against an impressive, resilient Fulham team. The Cottagers demonstrated that they are no pushover, but they are making a habit of being on the rough end of fine margins. Five straight draws followed by two defeats by a single goal suggests their battle against the drop will go right down to the wire.

Brighton have not had the smoothest of seasons so far, unable to turn some positive performances into points and being decimated by injuries in recent weeks. But, after losing narrowly at Man City, the Seagulls scrapped past Blackpool in the FA Cup, and then, they capped a hectic week with what they needed most at Elland Road - three points and tangible encouragement they are good enough to avoid the drop.
On the other hand, while Fulham have tightened things up at the back, they’ll continue to struggle if they don’t have an attacking platform as they have also only scored four times in their last eight top-flight games. Fulham have, tellingly, conceded nine goals in their last three away league games against Brighton (D1 L2) and if they fail to take their chances as they have done so many times in this campaign, the outcome won’t be to Scott Parkers liking.
BettingKick’s Brighton vs Fulham prediction is: Under 2.5 goals
