BRIGHTON VS LIVERPOOL MATCH ANALYSIS
Brighton hoped to bounce back when they host Burnley before the international break. The Seagulls wanted to put an end to their five-game winless run in the top division, but they managed to get only a goalless draw from the game. It was their third draw in the last four games, but now, they have topped it with a second away win against Aston Villa (1-2) in Birmingham, as they remained in 16th with 9 points. As for Liverpool, drawing against City (1-1) before the international break meant that the Reds have let Tottenham and Leicester overtake them at the top of the table, but they are now back on top, after a convincing win against the Foxes (3-0) last weekend. Liverpool are now 2nd in the standings with 20 points, only on goal difference below the Spurs. They are now unbeaten in the league in the last five matches (W3, D2) since their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
The Seagulls were always going to struggle this season. Apart from Maupay, their new young full-back Lamptey, and centre-back Ben White, who have been stand-out performers so far, there are not too many positives for Graham Potter. Four defeats, three draws, and a solitary win mean that Brighton had picked up just 6 points from the first eight games, but they are heading into this match on the back of their second league win and will feel positive they can take something from Liverpool game.
Their most recent win against Aston Villa was their first-ever win at Villa Park in their history. Brighton's first win in two months does not improve their position of 16th, but they are now six points clear of the relegation zone, which bodes well for the rest of the campaign. Brighton had scored only three times in their last four games, but they were a threat throughout this match, especially through Welbeck and Neal Maupay. It must be noted that they also did well defensively, as they held for a win despite Villa getting one goal back.
Liverpool, on the other hand, got off to a great start of the campaign with three wins, but then the Reds hit the wall against Villa, shipping 7 goals in the process. It was the first time Liverpool had conceded seven goals since 1963 and it was only their fourth Premier League defeat since January 2019. However, they bounced back with an eight-game unbeaten run (W6-D2) in all competitions, and are now top of their Champions League group and joint-top in the Premier League, as well.
After last weekend, they moved level on points with leaders Tottenham and destroyed Leicester's hopes of going top with outstanding performance and victory at Anfield. The injuries are a terrible blow for Liverpool at this moment, but the depleted squad performed brilliantly and proved that on their bench they have excellent replacements for their star players. The Reds also set a new club record of 64 home league games without a defeat, and have shipped only three goals in their last seven games, which makes them a really tough opposition for the Seagulls on Saturday.

Against all odds, Liverpool destroyed Leicester City 3-0 in the Premier League derby at the weekend. Mohamed Salah was not missed at all, with the Reds once again proving their worth in a big match. The Egypt international is rated doubtful for the Brighton game, but Diago Jota has proven he is the real deal already by scoring seven goals in 11 matches for the Reds in all competitions. So, regardless of which players Jurgen Klopp chooses in the starting eleven, his side is likely to stick to the attacking style of play.
The Seagulls, on the other hand, aim to build on a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. They have registered only their fifth Premier League win in their past 27 matches, with four of the five wins in this time coming away from home. Graham Potter’s men are eager to escape the relegation zone, but given Liverpool’s performance in the previous round’s win over Leicester, it is highly unlikely that they can be a match for the defending champions.
