Bristol will face Aston Villa in a Carabao Cup Third Round match at The Ashton Gate Stadium (Bristol) on Thursday, September 24 and the match will kick off at 7pm (UK).
After Bristol dispatched League One side Northampton (4-0) in round two and Aston Villa defeated Burton away (1-3), Dean Smith's Premier League side will now travel north to Bristol. Villa were, of course, runners up to Manchester City last season in the cup, the trophy they have not won since 1996 when they beat Leeds. Bristol haven't won any major trophy recently, but they are on a good run of four unbeaten games with two wins in the Carabao Cup and the Championship respectively.
Dean Holden made nine changes to his starting eleven and still overwhelmed Northampton in the second round. Now, they start the new Premier League campaign at home against the Blades on Monday with their first competitive win in 20/21 already under their belt.
Aston Villa knocked out League One Burton Albion on September 15. Villa showed that they are in good shape at the start of the season. Jack Grealish, who signed a new five-year contract with Villa just recently, scored a wonderful volley, and Dean Smith will be particularly pleased with their £28m record signing Ollie Watkins, who levelled for Villa on his debut. Villans showed that they can go all the way last season, but it will be a tricky away tie against the in-form opponent.
