Bristol host Swansea at the Ashton Gate Stadium (Bristol) in the 4th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Friday, August 20. Read our reasons for Bristol vs Swansea prediction and betting tips.
BRISTOL VS SWANSEA: STATS & FACTS
A 3-2 victory over Reading on Tuesday ended the Robins’ longest run without a win (D4, L8) since their 2014/15 return to the Championship, and eased some of the pressure that was building on manager Nigel Pearson. They will now look to record consecutive wins for the first time since February, but face a tough opponent in Swansea who finished 15 places above them last season. After achieving back-to-back top-six finishes, this new look Swansea are without a league win from three. However, they are replicating the dominant possession stats which Martin Russel recorded with his MK Dons side last term, but are lacking the same bite, averaging just eight shots per game despite having at least 60% possession in all three Championship games. Pearson is unbeaten in six of eight H2Hs with Swansea with his side scoring 2+ goals in each win (W5) which makes them a slight favourites here.
BRISTOL VS SWANSEA: PRE-MATCH TALK
Prior to tonight, you had to go back to mid-March for Bristol’s last three-point haul, a 3-0 win over Birmingham. But Tuesday night proved to be lucky 13, with the Robins finally ending their poor run thanks to an entertaining victory at Reading. They were well worth the win too, springing into a 2-0 lead after barely 15 minutes and fighting off a Royals comeback. Another positive is that Andi Weimann and Chris Martin looked very lively together playing in a 4-5-1. All in all, Bristol looked good on the break and created some good opportunities and Pearson will be hoping this result can now be the catalyst for a more favourable string of results.
Meanwhile, Swansea’s poor start to the season continued as they put out another uninspiring performance in a 3-1 loss against Stoke at home. It was a difficult night for Swans boss Russell Martin, who is still searching for a first league win at his new club. Martin had got a first taste of the renamed Swansea.com Stadium in last Saturday's goalless draw with Sheffield Utd when his new team dominated the ball but lacked menace in the final third. They were short on attacking threat once more against the Potters, but this time they struggled to maintain possession too. A return of one point from three games is far from ideal for last season's losing Championship play-off finalists.
BRISTOL VS SWANSEA: TEAM NEWS
Often a left-back but operating at left-midfield against Bristol, Pring grabbed a headed assist for Chris Martin’s goal against Reading on his Championship debut and could be given a start here. However, all eyes will be on Bristol’s Chris Martin and Andreas Weimann who scored within five minutes last time out before doubling up after HT after a nine-month absence. If the experienced pair can remain fit, Pearson's side have the potential to make a bid for the playoffs, but that will not be achieved unless they end their abysmal run at Ashton Gate.
On the other hand, Swansea are yet to make their mark under recently-appointed head coach Russell Martin, claiming just one point so far. While there is an argument that the Welsh club have had a tough start to the season, they were thoroughly outplayed by Stoke on Tuesday night. Joel Piroe got on the scoresheet, netting his second goal since a summer move from PSV Eindhoven, but Martin needs more from the rest of his squad if they are to replicate their appearances in the playoffs over the past two seasons.

After an uninspiring start to the season for both sides, both sides may approach the gane cautiously and a share of the spoils could be on cards on Friday night. However, with both teams struggling in front of the goal, BettingKick’s Bristol vs Swansea prediction is: Under 2.5 goals.
