Burnley host Aston Villa at the Turf Moor (Burnley) in the 20th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, January 27.
BURNLEY VS ASTON VILLA MATCH ANALYSIS
The hosts come into this match on the back of a historical 1-0 win against the defending champions Liverpool at Anfield and a 0-3 win against Fulham in the Round 4 of the FA Cup. They are now level on points (19) with Newcastle at 15th and are solid seven points away from the bottom-three after their 5th win of the campaign. As for Aston Villa, they have shown their top-six credentials after beating Newcastle 2-0 at home. The Villans ended their little barren run of three games without a win in the league (D1, L2), and with two games in hand, while being in 8th, they are on course to get into the mix for one of the European berths.
Burnley are rejuvenated after dealing Liverpool their first home league defeat (1-0) since April 2017. The Clarets have now also progressed to the Round 5 of the FA Cup after winning only once in their last ten FA Cup ties against PL opposition, doing so against the Cottagers, knocking them out in each of their last six domestic cup ties. These are their first back-to-back wins this season, which will be a huge boost ahead of their clash with Villa.
In the Premier League, Liverpool's 68-game unbeaten home run in the Premier League came to an end as Ashley Barnes fired in a late winner from the penalty spot to secure a famous victory for Burnley. This shock win lifts them up to 16th in the table, well clear of the relegation zone. The Clarets produced a dominant display with a comfortable win over struggling Fulham next as they face Bournemouth or Crawley in the fifth round.
As for Villa, after playing a fourth straight match against a team from last season’s top four, with the results not going their way (D1, L3), the hosts were without a win in 2021 prior to the Newcastle match. That’s after registering 11 points in the PL during December - their most in a single month since April 2010. They have now recorded 29 points after 17 games, a huge improvement on the 15 they managed after 16 rounds during 2019/20.
Coming into this game, only Manchester City have kept more clean sheets (10) in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (9), but Villa have also conceded the fewest goals on the road (7). Their reassuring display against the Magpies was further evidence of the progress Smith's side have made this season. The Newcastle game wasn’t much of a test but has, nevertheless ended their four-game winless streak in all competitions, and now they turn to Burnley to keep pushing for the top-six or even the top-four.

Burnley have won just one of their seven Premier League meetings with Aston Villa (D4 L2), while Aston Villa are looking to record back-to-back away top-flight wins against Burnley for the first time in this century.
Turf Moor is known to be a tough place to get a win and has now seen fewer goals scored than any other Premier League ground this season, with just 13 goals being scored in Burnley’s eight home league games this season. Dean Smith will bear that in mind after his side lost their last two Premier League away games, more than they had in their previous nine on the road (W5 D3).
Burnley’s fortunes have turned with Ben Mee back in the centre of defense, but in Grealish, Villa has one of the most potent attacking weapons in the league.
We still expect a low scoring match, so BettingKick’s Burnley vs Aston Villa prediction is: Under 2.5 goals
