Burnley host Brighton at the Turf Moor (Burnley) in the 1st round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 14. Read our reasons for Burnley vs Brighton prediction and betting tips.
LOW SCORING AFFAIR ON THE CARDS
Brighton travel to Burnley on Saturday in a meeting between two sides who flirted with relegation for much of the previous campaign. Burnley have endured a typical Burnley summer with little investment into the squad. The Clarets won five of their six pre-season friendlies, albeit against lesser opposition. Brighton, on the other hand, only had half as many pre-season games and they typically failed to score in two of them. Is there a concern they head into the new season a little undercooked? Neither side have been that active in the transfer market and it could be another season of ensuring top-flight survival for both sides. Last season’s meetings between the clubs finished 0-0 and 1-1 and another low-scoring draw would be no surprise on the opening weekend.
COULD CLARETS MAKE A WINNING START?
As the lowest survivors of the 2020/21 pl season, Burnley will certainly relish the full return of fans to Turf Moor after a 17-month absence. Burnley’s slow start last season left them in danger of relegation but the poor form of the bottom three meant their final haul of 39 points was easily enough for survival. That is not always the case, though, and boss Sean Dyche will be keen to make a winning start before a tough run of fixtures against Liverpool, Leeds, Everton, Arsenal and Leicester.
The arrival of new American owners has not led to much transfer activity, though, with Stoke defender Nathan Collins signed for around £12million and keeper Wayne Hennessey brought in to provide competition for Nick Pope. Nevertheless, Sean Dyche is the longest-serving manager in the top-flight so Burnley will hope that stability proves important, but only relegated duo Fulham and Sheffield Utd scored fewer goals last season.
SEAGULLS: THE DRAW SPECIALISTS
Finishing last season just two points better off than their hosts in 16th, Brighton will hope for a repeat of their previous two away campaign openers, each won 3-0. However, with the summer loss of defensive ace Ben White to Arsenal, Brighton may again prioritise conservatism, which did much to save Brighton last term, as they conceded the bottom-half’s joint-fewest goals during the last term and drew record 14 games.
When it comes to team new, The Seagulls didn’t have an eventful summer. Davy Propper has switched to Dutch side PSV, while Zambia midfielder Enock Mwepu comes in from RB Salzburg for around £18m, with Kjell Scherpen of Ajax and Benfica’s Jeremy Sarmiento other recruits. Graham Potter’s men often play attractive football but time and time again they failed to take their chances last season and there is an argument that they offer more style than substance.

Burnley and Brighton occupied the two places above the relegation zone last season and will be keen to get off to a fast start when they meet at Turf Moor on the opening weekend. The Clarets only picked up two points from their first seven matches last season but recovered to finish just two points below 16th-placed Brighton. The problem last season for the Seagulls was not taking their chances, and they are yet to address that issue. Meanwhile, Burnley are renowned for absorbing pressure and defending deep, and this has served them well so far.
There looks little to choose between them so the BettingKick’s Burnley vs Brighton prediction is: draw.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
