BURNLEY VS CRYSTAL PALACE MATCH ANALYSIS
The Clarets made a disappointingly slow start to the season, with the team collecting only 2 points from a possible 21. They are second from the bottom after their only 2nd draw in the league (D2-L5), albeit with a game in hand. Burnley desperately need points against Palace to kick-start their season as the club is going through the motions on all levels. As for Palace, the Eagles are 8th in the table with 13 points. After two consecutive wins against Southampton at home and Manchester United away at the start of the new campaign, they followed it with two defeats - to Everton at home and away to Chelsea. Since then they picked up seven points and are looking for their first back-to-back wins of the campaign after their splendid (4-1) win against Leeds before the break.
Sean Dyche has rightly been praised for his leadership at Burnley with a modestly assembled Clarets squad - having provided a second top-10 finish in five Premier League seasons in 2019/2020. But an already thin squad is at its limits. Furthermore, they have been very unfortunate with injuries and they still have many important players missing. Dyche had done wonders with the Clarets' modest squad before, so let's not write them off already.
The goalless draw away at Brighton before the international break was not a step in that direction. Dyche admitted afterward that the improvement needs to come quickly as they look to get on the right side of the margins. The big positive was the return of captain Ben Mee for his first appearance of the season following a thigh injury. But there was little to cheer on the pitch and the last time they failed to win their opening seven games, back in 2014-15, they were relegated.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, had the best start to the season ever with two wins on the trot, including a historical 1-3 win against Manchester United. However, it ended before they could have reveled in it for too long. The Eagles followed it with two defeats before they shared the spoils with Brighton. The see-saw results have continued as they lost to Wolves two weeks ago, but most recently, came with three points from the Leeds match before the break.
The match saw Eberechi Eze scoring his first Crystal Palace goal with a sublime free-kick as Roy Hodgson's side thrashed Leeds in an entertaining match at Selhurst Park. Palace have now already registered three or more goals in two of their eight league games so far, despite failing to do so in any match the last term. Captain Luka Milivojevic will be out of the game as he tested positive for coronavirus and has stayed in Serbia, but Palace are nevertheless looking for their first two consecutive wins this season.
