BURNLEY VS EVERTON MATCH ANALYSIS
The Clarets made a disappointingly slow start to the season, with the team collecting only 5 points from a possible 27. They have escaped the relegation zone for the first time in a while after their first win of the campaign against Crystal Palace (1-0), but are now back in the relegation zone in 19th with 5 points after they received a proper trashing at the hands of Man City last weekend. It is also worth mentioning that they have a game in hand. As for Everton, their unbeaten run of 5 games came to an end (W4-D1) at Southampton (2-0) in the sixth week of the Premier League and they followed it with three more defeats to fall to 8th place with 16 points. Their only win in this period (W1-L3) was a tough away win in London against Fulham (2-3), and Carlo Ancelotti will look to steady the ship against relegation candidate Burnley.
When it comes to Burnley, Sean Dyche has rightly been praised for his leadership there, with a modestly assembled Clarets squad - having provided a second top-10 finish in five Premier League seasons in 2019/2020. But an already thin squad is at its limits. Furthermore, they have been very unfortunate with injuries and they still have many important players missing. Dyche had done wonders with the Clarets' modest squad before, so let's not write them off already, especially after their first league win of the season two weeks ago.
As for their latest defeat, Riyad Mahrez scored his first Man City hat-trick as they defeated the Clarets 5-0 at the Etihad for the fourth time in a row. It could have been even worse for the visitors - and their keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who was making his top-flight debut with Nick Pope missing through injury. Burnley have now lost seven of their past 10 PL games, after losing just one of their 15 before that. It will be a tough and long season for them.
Everton, on the other hand, lost three games on the trot between rounds 6 and 8, which happened for the first time since Ancelotti was appointed at Everton, and after topping the league for a couple of weeks early in the season, have fallen down the table. They have also shipped two or more goals in six of their last seven Premier League fixtures, which is untypical of Ancelotti’s sides. They did not manage to bounce back after a win in London against Fulham, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side picking up maximum points at the Goodison last weekend.
The Toffees recorded a fourth defeat in five games, making their unbeaten start to the season seem like a distant memory. Richarlison, Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure created numerous chances against Leeds, but could not beat Illan Meslier. Everton also displayed their defensive flaws once again as the Lilywhites ran riot, and could have made the score even more convincing. However, despite his team's shortcomings, Ancelotti believes that they are on the right track, but they must win at Turf Moor if they are to convince the fans.

The Clarets have had a disappointing start to the campaign, but the fact that they defeated Crystal Palace in their last home game can give fans a reason for optimism ahead of this weekend. The good news for the hosts is that first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope should recover in time to face the Toffees, who started the new Premier League season in style, but, suffered a huge dip in form lately.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men want to bounce back from a loss to Leeds where they had several clear-cut opportunities to score, and will surely hit the ground running from the start against Burnley. The Toffees can hardly have a better opportunity than this to return to winning ways, and even though full-backs Digne and Coleman are sidelined with injury, an away win should be considered.
